Our community has always been able to count on Kaleb and Amber Benson. As dedicated members of the S.A.V.E.S Fire and Rescue. They have spent countless hours serving others, answering calls, and standing beside neighbors during some of their hardest moments. Their commitment to our community has never wavered.

Now, they are facing the unimaginable.

Their beloved one year old son recently suffered a medical emergency that resulted in a drowning incident. As their family focuses on his care, healing, and simply being together, they should not have to carry the additional burden of financial stress.

We’re asking our community to come together for a family that has given so much to others. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help ease the financial strain of medical expenses, travel, time away from work, and the many unexpected costs that come with a tragedy like this.

Flint City VFD Responds to Single-Vehicle Crash on Norris Mill Road

Hartselle, AL – On Thursday, July 30, 2026, at approximately 11:02 p.m., the Flint City Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the 5100 block of Norris Mill Road following an iPhone Crash Detection notification with no contact from the occupants.

While firefighters were searching the area, officers with the Decatur Police Department located a white Ford Mustang that had left the roadway near the Flint Creek Bridge.

Upon arrival, Flint City VFD crews immediately began working to safely remove the injured driver from the vehicle. Once the driver was removed, EMS personnel began medical treatment before transporting the patient to a local hospital for further care.

After the patient was transported, Flint City VFD remained on scene to assist with vehicle recovery as the tow service removed the vehicle from the wooded area.

We would like to thank the Decatur Police Department and EMS for their assistance and coordination during this incident.

We remind everyone to drive safely, especially during nighttime hours, and encourage motorists to wear their seat belts at all times.

The City of Decatur is heartbroken by the loss of Chris Seal, a longtime employee of our Parks and Recreation Department.

Chris faithfully served the City of Decatur and its residents for 21 years. He was a valued member of our City family, and his loss will be deeply felt throughout our organization.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris’ family, friends, coworkers, and all who knew him. We ask our community to keep them in your prayers and respect their privacy during this difficult time.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for our area until 9 PM

On Sunday, June 28, 2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Flint City Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential fire involving a pole barn, a camper, and several recreational vehicles in the 2000 block of Roberts Catfish Lane. Initial reports indicated the fire was also spreading into a nearby wooded area. Due to the nature of the incident, mutual aid was immediately requested, and the Priceville Volunteer Fire Department and Hartselle Fire & Rescue were dispatched to assist.

Upon arrival, Flint City VFD crews joined Hartselle Fire & Rescue, who had already begun fire suppression efforts and had successfully contained the fire to the pole barn and its contents. Flint City firefighters immediately assisted with extinguishment and overhaul operations. Together, crews brought the fire under control, and Flint City VFD remained on scene for several hours extinguishing hotspots to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

Although the pole barn and all of its contents were a total loss, we are thankful to report that the camper was unoccupied and no injuries occurred as a result of the fire.

The Flint City Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank Hartselle Fire & Rescue, the Priceville Volunteer Fire Department, and all responding agencies for their quick response, teamwork, and assistance during this incident.

Flint City Volunteer Fire Department Responds to Late-Night Structure Fire

Decatur, AL – June 17, 2026

On June 16, 2026, at approximately 11:15 p.m., Flint City Volunteer Fire Department, along with Decatur Fire & Rescue, was dispatched to the 300 block of Deere Springs Road for a reported residential fire involving a utility shed.

Flint City VFD responded with Tanker 1 and Truck 2. Upon arrival, firefighters located a utility shed situated up a steep driveway that was already fully involved and had collapsed to the ground.

Due to the challenging terrain and limited access to the fire scene, only brush trucks were able to reach the structure. Additional assistance was requested, and Oak Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, as well as Neel VFD & Punkin Center VFD responded to provide mutual aid.

Firefighters from all responding agencies worked diligently for several hours to extinguish the fire and fully extinguish hot spots within the remaining debris.

While the utility shed was determined to be a total loss, we are thankful to report that no injuries occurred as a result of the incident.
