: LSU baseball legend Skip Bertman dies at 88, according to his youngest daughter, Lori Jill Bertman.
Lori said her father passed away at 1:00 a.m. this morning, surrounded by his daughters at a local hospital.

Atlanta came out the gate swinging! š Day 1 of NABJ was already a warm welcome and a reminder of one of the things I value most about this conference: connection, belonging, and family.
Wednesday night was just a glimpse of whatās ahead. Iām looking forward to connecting with so many talented journalists, media professionals, and students who are shaping the future of our industry.
And being in Atlanta makes it even more meaningful. The A has long been a center of Black media, entertainment, arts, and music - and thereās something special about bringing Black journalists together in a place so deeply connected to our culture and our stories.

: A timeless story of love, loss and hope is getting a fresh spin right here in the Baton Rouge area.
The Sullivan Theater Youth Company (Ed Sullivan Theater) is bringing Hadestown: Teen Edition to the stage, with local teens taking on the iconic roles of Hades, Persephone, Orpheus and Eurydice.
The production puts a unique twist on the familiar Greek mythology, setting the story in Depression era New Orleans.
Tristan Jarnagin and Raija Smith are stepping into the roles of Hades and Persephone, and theyāre helping bring this challenging musical to life.
Hadestown: Teen Edition runs August 13 through August 16 at Sullivan Theater. TICKET DETAILS BELOW.

What a weekend! I had the honor of hitting the first ball at the inaugural āCoaches Bashā Charity Baseball Game! ā¾ļø
I got to learn more about umpires, the hard work they put in, and the impact they have on the game. I also had the opportunity to meet Baton Rougeās first Black umpire and learn more about the amazing work 543 Umpire is doing in the community.
But honestly, one of my favorite parts was meeting so many incredible people, players, and studentsāall while coming together for a great cause and raising money for Childrenās Hospital.
Thank you, 543 Umpire and AMR, for including me and letting me be part of such a special event!

Letās just say my baseball career probably ended before it ever started. I definitely wouldnāt make the team! LOL!
Baton Rouge city-wide bball tournament underway... Who Run It? šš
Right now, it's Scotlandville vs Peabody
Who Run It? šš Some of Baton Rougeās most celebrated high school basketball players are lacing up their sneakers one more time.
The inaugural Who Run It? Baton Rouge Alumni Tournament tips off Saturday at Scotlandville High School, bringing together alumni from Scotlandville, Glen Oaks, Peabody, Broadmoor, Tara, Catholic and Higgins for a winner-takes-all showdown and city bragging rights.
The tournament was created in Little Rock, Arkansas, by former Grambling State University standout and professional basketball player Shakyla Hill. With the help of East Baton Rouge Metro Councilman Anthony Kenney, the event is expanding to the Baton Rouge area for the first time.
Organizers say itās about more than basketball. The event is meant to reunite former classmates, reignite longtime rivalries and bring the community together. Families can also enjoy games for kids, live performances and a scholarship giveaway throughout the day.
Games begin at 3 p.m., with the championship tipping off at 8 p.m.

: EBR Schools has released Superintendent LaMont Coleās mugshot after he turned himself in to authorities Thursday morning, following multiple indictments handed down Wednesday. The development comes on the districtās first day of school.
