Gov. Jeff Landry signs new congressional redistricting map into law ⬇️
Louisiana lawmakers pass congressional redistricting bill
📺This was the mood on the floor Thursday.
Republican Congressman Clay Higgins says he is “100% opposed” to Louisiana’s proposed new congressional map. Democratic State Rep. Edmond Jordan agreed.
Rep. Edmond Jordan: “I never thought I’d see the day that I’d agree with Representative Clay Higgins but I guess hell has frozen over”.
The convo was over [another]amended map that drops a majority-Black district and continues to draw concern around representation in a state whereby Black Louisianans make up about 1/3 of the population.
The map advanced through the House floor on Thursday anyway.
WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW?
âś… The Senate agreed on SB121 on a 28-10 vote.
✅It will head to Gov. Jeff Landry’s desk.
✅If signed this could set Louisiana’s congressional elections back in motion.

🚨 A man and woman are dead after a domestic violence-related shooting in Baton Rouge.
The Baton Rouge Police Department confirmed the victim and suspect connected to the shooting as Averia Arceneaux, 33, and Johvon McKinley, 29.
Meanwhile, Louisiana a state that consistently ranks among the worst for domestic violence homicides approved its next operating budget with no additional domestic violence funding, according to the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
The group say shelters are turning victims away, millions in federal funding have been lost, and requests for victim housing, legal aid, and fatality review funding went unmet.
SIX YEARS LATER.
It’s been six years since George Floyd was killed outside of this grocery store in Minneapolis.
There was a national movement. It led to the creation of a policing reform bill that addresses things like police bias and misconduct but it hasn’t passed.
Then ICE showed up.
KingDemetrius Pendleton says the City still hasn’t provided relief for people dealing with the aftermath.
