Host of LA 64, a Louisiana travel show airing statewide on LPB and The Design Tourist travel show coming soon to PBS stations nationwide

Stepping into the Hotel Bentley in Alexandria feels like walking directly into a chapter of Louisiana’s grand history. 🏛️✨

While filming in Rapides Parish for the LA64 series, this iconic landmark served as our home base. Known as the "Waldorf of the Red River," the Bentley’s storied halls and marble columns provided a sophisticated backdrop while we documented the region for LPB. It’s the kind of place where the architecture tells as much of a story as the people we meet on the road. 🎥📜

There is a distinct energy that comes with being right on the edge of the Gulf in St. Mary Parish. 🌊🦀

While filming along the coast, we called Cypremort Point State Park our home base. Staying in the waterfront cabins overlooking Vermilion Bay offered a front-row seat to the coastal landscapes we were capturing for the LA64 series on LPB. It’s one of those rare spots where the salt air and the marsh meet, providing the perfect authentic environment to recharge between production days. 🎥🌅

There is a specific kind of peace you find in Beauregard Parish. 🌲🌾

While filming in the DeRidder area, we called Camp in the Pines our home base. Nestled on five acres of farmland, it offered that quiet, "country farm" atmosphere that makes working on the road in Louisiana so memorable. Being able to recharge in a setting like this is a key part of how we capture the true character of our parishes for Louisiana Public Broadcasting. 🎥🏡

Our journey across the state continues in the heart of Cajun Country. 🦞✨

While filming in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana, our home base was Cajun Bayou Cabins in Breaux Bridge. There’s something special about staying in a 19th-century cottage right on the banks of the Bayou Teche. It’s an immersive way to experience the rhythm of the bayou and the hospitality that defines this region. 🎥🚣‍♂️

This week, I’m taking you behind the lens to feature the authentic places I’ve called home while filming across the state for LPB. 🎥✨

We’re starting in Parish of Caddo at God’s Country RV Resort. When we’re on the road for the LA64 series, I always look for a place that has its own story to tell. Between the Conestoga wagons and the quiet landscape, this stay offered a sense of character that truly captures the spirit of North Louisiana.

If you want to experience the frontier life for yourself, visit https://streamsideparks.com/gods-country-resort-shreveport-la/ to book your stay.

I’ll be sharing a new favorite location from our travels every day this week.

A payphone with 35 cents. Cabins with no roofs and termites. A couple who took a leap of faith not knowing what they were doing. That is how Bayou Cabins in Breaux Bridge became a destination for travelers from 70 countries. Read the full story: https://discoverlouisianatravel.com/bayou-cabins-in-breaux-bridge/

I'm a LeBlanc, a Cajun by birth. I thought I really understood my family tree until I walked inside Saint Martin de Tours in St. Martinville. This church is the glue that kept Cajun culture alive. If you carry an Acadian name or just love Louisiana history, this is a place you need to experience. Learn more: https://discoverlouisianatravel.com/inside-saint-martin-de-tours/

A heartfelt thank you to St. Mary Parish Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau and Ed Tiger Verdin for your hospitality and assistance while filming LA64 airing on Louisiana Public Broadcasting throughout the Parish. What a way to wrap with a community concert by American Idol Winner & Louisianian Laine Hardy in honor of LA64 & all of those who are a part of it. Stay tuned, the episode airs the first Monday in May at 8pm

My latest article for LAPALMEMagazine is out now!

Most people use "Cajun" and "Creole" like they mean the same thing. They don't. And the difference is worth understanding.

So I went home to Louisiana to find it—in a pot of gumbo, in a Breaux Bridge dance hall, in the hands of a metal smith forging a Cajun triangle the way it's been done for generations.

"From Roux to Rhythm" is part travel, part homecoming.
