SharpeVision MODERN LASIK has sponsored HAAM during the annual fundraising volleyball tournament Charity Spike, raising over $43,000 for HAAM over the years. Charity Spike is one of Austin’s largest competitive co-ed volleyball tournaments, and its focus is raising money for local charities and nonprofits. This year, the Sharpe Vision team raised over $4,000 to support HAAM’s programs!

HAAM has a long history of working with incredible provider partners who have donated millions of dollars of free or discounted care to our musicians, making it possible for us to provide the best, most affordable care we can to as many musicians as possible.

In 2020, Sharpe Vision began offering LASIK eye surgery to twenty-four HAAM members every year. LASIK vision correction treatment is not typically covered by insurance and is therefore cost-prohibitive for our members. Since the LASIK program started, Sharpe Vision has provided over $347,400 in treatment services to HAAM musicians, with over $46,000 in donated procedures in 2024!

Our August Pearl Society event at Q2 Stadium was hosted in partnership with Sharpe Vision. That night, Dr. Nicholas Lancaster from Sharpe joined us to share more about the value and benefit of vision correction procedures. Dr. Lancaster is a Refractive Surgeon at Sharpe, and was awarded and recognized as “Best of the Best Corrective Eye Surgeon in Austin” from 2020 through 2023 by the Austin-American Statesman.

We are so grateful for our friends at Sharpe Vision and cannot wait to see what more we can do together to expand access to vision care for working musicians in Central Texas.

HAAM is honored to be one of three local non-profit organizations that Zilker Belts supports! Local musician, Jonathan Terrell, partnered with Zilker Belts to design a show-stopper custom belt for HAAM, with 100% of proceeds helping to keep music in Austin alive and well! Today, as part of its continued commitment to the Austin music community, the PNC Foundation announced a three-year, year-round partnership with the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM). The renewed sponsorship with HAAM will make the PNC Foundation the organization’s exclusive financial education partner and the co-lead supporter of HAAM Day, Austin’s biggest fundraising event supporting local musicians.

HAAM provides a lifeline to Austin musicians, and since 2005, has helped its members access $191 million in healthcare services, ranging from primary and specialty care, dental, vision, hearing, mental health, basic needs and other services.

Support from the PNC Foundation will allow HAAM to provide comprehensive healthcare to ensure Austin's vibrant tradition of live music continues to be a cultural and economic driver for the community. 75% of HAAM musicians make less than $30,000 a year. PNC's support, along with additional philanthropic dollars, will help HAAM serve more than 3,000 clients annually.

As exclusive financial education partner, PNC will host several financial education workshops annually to help educate HAAM artists on how to manage their personal and business finances, with the goal of stabilizing professional growth and maximizing health outcomes.

PNC’s co-lead partnership of HAAM Day will also help facilitate the fundraising event that aims to make a difference in the lives of Central Texas musicians covered through HAAM services. The all-day event is scheduled for Sept. 24, 2024 and includes over 200 performances across Austin. Last year, with PNC’s help, the organization raised nearly $800,000 in one day.

“Music and musicians are an integral part of what makes our city unique,” said Steven Gonzalez, PNC regional president for Austin. “In order to support the music community, it is essential to support the comprehensive ecosystem surrounding musicians. HAAM offers vital healthcare services to our local music community and this extended partnership solidifies PNC’s commitment to their efforts. Beyond that, we aim to improve the financial health of the Austin community and this provides us an additional avenue to achieve that goal.”

PNC also participated in HAAM’s Corporate Battle of the Bands, held in June at ACL Live at the Moody Theater.

“We are grateful for PNC’s continued investment, both financially and intellectually, into HAAM and also its contributions to the local Austin music community as a whole,” said Paul Scott, HAAM CEO. “It is clear, PNC understands the value our musicians bring to Austin, both culturally and economically, as well as the importance of addressing musician’s pressing and urgent needs, so they can remain in Austin, playing the music we all love to enjoy. PNC’s three-year investment in HAAM will help us to continue to provide healthcare services for our members while also supporting our musicians with financial education and literacy opportunities to sustain them in their music careers. This year, HAAM has the honor of working with Austin-based artist and entrepreneur, Zuzu Kelly Perkal, to design the HAAM Day artwork!

Zuzu was voted Austin Chronicle’s “Best Muralist” for the past three years, with artwork posted around town on billboards, buildings, and brand partnerships with SXSW, Still Austin Whiskey Co., and many more Austin businesses. She's combined her passion of art, business, curation, and design to work with brands like American Express, Rolling Stone, Coca-Cola, Lexus, Neiman Marcus, and MLB.

Her large-scale mural work is recognized for its vibrant colors, abstract design, and positive messaging.

"Music and art are deeply intertwined, each supporting, energizing, and inspiring the other,” says Zuzu, “Music heals us from the inside out, and my art is intentionally designed to do the same. This year's HAAM Day artwork features a vibrant and funky color palette, reminding us to stay groovy and be happy. Like the artwork, life is abundant and blossoming all around us. Art and music enliven the spirit and culture of our city, and I'm honored to be part of this special project supporting our beloved local musicians."

Today the Austin community remembers music journalist and author Michael Corcoran, who recently passed away leaving an unforgettable legacy of chronicling and shaping the Austin music scene we know today.

Many great musicians that Michael loved and lauded over the course of his career will be at Antone's this afternoon to pay tribute, including Taméca Jones, Britt Daniel, Shinyribs, and more. The memorial is free, with donations benefitting the work of our friends at The SIMS Foundation.

Antone’s is honored to host a memorial for music writer extraordinaire and all-around Austin legend Michael Corcoran this Monday, July 15. Many great musicians that Michael loved and lauded over the course of his career will be onsite to pay tribute.

There is no admission fee, and this is not a ticketed event. First-come, first admitted. A suggested donation of $20 at the door would be appreciated, with proceeds to benefit The SIMS Foundation.

If you are unable to attend in person, but would like to honor Michael, the family requests donations to the SIMS Foundation in his name.

HAAM Day is more than a fundraiser! Now in its 19th year, HAAM Day is one of Austin’s most iconic celebrations of community and live music, raising awareness and critical funds for HAAM. HAAM Day 2024, powered by PNC and SXSW, will take place on Tuesday, September 24th and will be offering more than 250 FREE live music performances all over town.

Austinites can expect to hear tunes bouncing off the walls of their local bank lobbies, grocery stores, parks, restaurants, shops, and of course, live music venues.
