On Monday, the HAAM staff was saddened to learn about the passing of HAAM Member and local DJ, Jeff Henry, better known around the world as DJ Chicken George. Our Signature Events Coordinator and friend of DJCG, Doug Leveton, has put together these words...

DJ Chicken George was a pillar in the Austin DJ scene and often referred to as a legend by his admirers and peers. Internationally known for his signature Jazztronica sound, he was that rare breed of human; incredibly talented, unmatched work ethic, and tremendously humble. Ever so generous with his presence and knowledge, he constantly encouraged the next generation of DJ's to pursue their passion and dreams. The impact he made on the community is clear by the countless amount of DJ's who considered him a mentor, myself included.

The HAAM staff would like to extend or thoughts and condolences to his family and daughter, to his long list of musical collaborators, to his label mates at Austin Boogie Crew, and to all of those that were lucky enough to know him. You can hear him in the vinyl grooves of the Third Root albums, in his ABC releases as co-executive producer, and on his mixcloud page where dozens of his DJ sets live.

Thank you Jeff for making such a positive impact on the Austin Music Community. Your words of wisdom and musical contributions will resonate globally and beyond, for generations to come.

We are thrilled to have Cirrus Logic as the presenting sponsor of HAAM’s Corporate Battle of the Bands 2024!

Their all-employee band - The Haptics – are back to defend their Fan Favorite title and rock the ACL Live at the Moody Theater Stage on June 5.

While several band members are CBOB veterans - Andy Rumelt (keys, harmonica, vocals), Jonathan Ruiz (bass), Matthew Beardsworth (guitar, vocals), Zak Kaye (guitar), and Ryan Lobo (drums) - this year, they’ve added two incredible vocalists to elevate their sound - Bret Britton and Michael Ovassapian!

The Haptics have spent many weeks in the Cirrus Logic jam room perfecting their harmonies and planning a set list that showcases each member’s unique abilities. Their classic riffs will evoke a feeling of nostalgia, while Michael and Bret’s impressive vocal range send their songs soaring. They can’t wait to perform for the fans and help raise money for HAAM.
