On Saturday, Feb 3rd, at 6:30 pm Breath and Body Yoga lost electricity along with other businesses in the Tarrytown shopping center. The studio quickly transitioned to zoom to deliver this mornings Sunday classes. With the weather warming into the 70's today, there's no reason why we can't open the in-studio classes for Monday, Feb 6th with or without electric.

No lights, no heat, no music, no problem. The City of Austin and Austin Energy does not define our commitment to our practice. With resilience, our breath can stoke the internal heat. As a community we have all been through the stress with the unpredicted deep freeze and this practice is needed to recalibrate our body and mind. Our vulnerabilities have been exposed as individuals, families, homesteads and businesses. But now the sun coming out. We are warming. It's time to clean up our yards, the streets and move forward.

The bathrooms will now have flashlights. The laundry can be cleaned off site (for now). We will prevail. No electricity doesn't mean a loss of power. The City of Austin, Austin Energy and our city leaders are costing businesses so much money with this loss of electric. Breath and Body Yoga turns 17 in March and nothing is going to get in the way of our commitment to deliver a quality product. Perseverance will prevail.

This is also a reminder to PREREGISTER prior to each class. As this past week has shown us, that situations change very quickly. We will be updating the accounts and capturing your cell phone numbers in order to communicate with you via text when class changes happen last minute. If you have any questions, please reach out. We are right here for you.

Join Desirae Pierce and Laura Dunworth Thursday, January 5th at 5:30 pm for the kick off of our newest offering, Stretch Bodywork + Soundbath. We all strive to find ways to reduce stress, relieve tension and anxiety brought on by our busy lives. Outer Spiral the top of the upper thigh moves toward the outer knee and toward the heel of the foot. Moves the thighbones forward. Narrows the sitting bones, pelvis, and thighs and moves pelvis down and inwards.

Root down to rise high, each pose starts in the foundation. It's time for a breakdown... Warrior 1 - Virabhadrasana 1

Starting from the feet, the back toes are pointed at 45 degrees towards the top of the mat, pressing down into the knife edge of your foot to not collapse into your arch. Root down through all four corners of your front foot. Micro bend in your back knee and front knee is at 90 degrees, stacked over your ankle. Hips are squared forward and the pelvis is in a neutral position. Engage your core by drawing your belly in and up. Arms are extended up to the sky, relaxing your traps.

Ingredients
∙ 5 tablespoons coconut oil or almond oil
∙ 3 tablespoons cumin seed
∙ 2 serrano chiles chopped fine
∙ 4-5 red or yellow potatoes(cubed, soaked in cold water, drained, and rinsed)
∙ 1 large green cabbage(chopped into bite-size pieces)
∙ 1 large cauliflower(chopped into bite-size pieces)
∙ 3 cans full-fat coconut milk
∙ 2 cups water(more if you like broth)
∙ 2 tsps Smokey paprika
∙ 1 bunch of green chard(chopped bite-size)
∙ Sea or Himalayan salt to taste
∙ 3 fresh limes
∙ Toasted Pepitas
∙ Cilantro(chopped fine)
∙ Serve with fresh lime wedges and Pepitas over brown or white rice.

Instructions
1. Heat oil in a large soup pot on low flame. Add cumin seed and chiles until seeds are golden brown (4 minutes) increase the heat to medium, add rinsed potatoes.
2. Stir and cover the pot until the potatoes are tender. Add cabbage and cover until the cabbage is soft, stirring often.
3. Add cauliflower, coconut milk, and water, cover, and bring to a boil on medium heat. Add paprika, chard, and salt. Simmer until all aspects of the soup are tender.
4. Use an immersion blender to create a creamy soup.
5. Serve over brown or white rice, topped with pepitas and cilantro, and garnished with lime wedges.

Welcome our newest yoga teacher! Kate Wyler!🙏

Born and raised in England, Kate always had a passion and curiosity for creativity and the arts, which broadened to holistic therapies, spirituality, and nutrition. Transforming her life and health step by step after finding herself at a crossroads in 2015. Kate was introduced to meditation and the physical element of yoga- asana. Building a regular practice was life-changing. Yoga touched something in her soul that needed nourishing. She credits yoga for making her a better person. Yoga continues to provide valuable tools to help create a full life, as well as an anchor to the journey through the inevitable peaks and troughs.

Kate completed her 200-Hour RYT in 2021 while living in Barbados. In May of 2022, she moved to Austin and completed a further 50-Hour RYT CEU in Power Yoga and Sequencing. She's delighted to have found Desirae and Breath and Body Yoga in September and fell in love with the teaching, studio and alignment based practice.

Kate's passionate about the balance of yoga, from the deep rest and the healing it provides to the strength, rejuvenation and endurance it builds. Her intent is to create a space in her classes where these benefits can be received, inspire confidence and the ability for students to deepen their practice through alignment and creative sequences.
