Gisborne Volunteer Centre

Gisborne Volunteer Centre supports and promotes volunteering in our community. For those interested in volunteering, we can point you in the right direction; for those community groups needing volunteers, we can help you.

It’s great to hear why volunteers do what they do 🥰

Volunteer Baker

We asked our volunteer Cheryle what is the best part of the role...

"I've always loved cooking so when I retired the thought was " what am I going to do" I volunteered to help hospice and do baking for those who enjoy homemade baking to brighten up their day"

Great idea! Or clear out some of your baby books. If we all take one book what a difference it would make! 😎

A reminder that we have a stall at The Farmers Market today. Help support us by getting your child to bring along a book or toy to donate. We have a yummy prize to be won!

Here are the details of our very exciting event,
Great Walks of Gisborne, 12 November.👩‍🦯👨‍🦯
This was formerly called The Memory Walk and is still a fundraiser to remember those who have had dementia and are no longer with us as well as help us to continue our work with those currently affected by the disease.
This will be a great way to get some fresh air and exercise, see unique parts of Tairawhiti and support us!🤩
Tickets available from Mitre 10 or contact us for more information😃

Volunteering NZ is putting out a call for stories from people to share their experiences of volunteering, or being a manager of volunteers for our State of Volunteering report.

We’d love to have a few stories (and pictures) to personalise the report.
You could write it yourself – or be interviewed – and answer these questions:
1. What motivates you to volunteer/ manage volunteers?

2. When have you been especially proud of the impact your volunteering had (for example, impact on someone or impact on a particular cause)?

3. What does it look like for volunteers to be valued/ how could it be improved?

Please message us if you’re interested.

Check this out.

Are you passionate about mahi aroha and volunteering? Would you like to be part of the Volunteering New Zealand Board? We're open for nominations for Māori, Pasifika and Youth representatives. Find out more here: and respond by 17 October.

Awesome Charlotte 😊 what a lovely thing to do!

We were delighted when a year 7 student from Gisborne Intermediate contacted us about a leadership group she was a part of with a requirement that she give something back to the community. Charlotte chose us to bake a banana loaf for to be shared with the clients in the Sherwood Club.😍 What a wonderful programme to promote leadership in our community👍. Thank you Charlotte for choosing us. You certainly did contribute to us having a great day🥰

Another fantastic workshop, held in the beautiful new Hospice building.
Thank you Jane Kibble - Hospice Volunteer Manager for organising this wonderful venue for us.
We had fantastic feedback from all of the participants.

What a fantastic enterprise! Thanks to you all 😊

Wills months is a chance to remind people of the importance of having a will and keeping it current. When a loved one passes away, it is incredibly challenging and even more so if it there is no will or it is out of date.

For many people, leaving a gift in their will is a more achievable way of fulfilling their long-term charitable goals, as circumstances often dictate that we cannot give as much as we would like while we're alive.

Glenda Stokes, Sunrise executive officers says, "A gift in your will, of any denomination, can make an enormous difference for causes you care about in our community but costs you nothing now."

Gifts to Sunrise are invested in perpetuity, generating income that is distributed annually to local community organisations.

Add Sunrise to your will for free in September with partner law firms Woodward Chrisp and Nolans.
