Time Matters with MS. NZ has well below the number of neurologists needed. Help Multiple Sclerosis Society of New Zealand with its urgent plea to government, by clicking on the link and giving your support.
📢 A Wake-Up Call for Aotearoa: MS Cases Are Rising: Our Health System Must Keep Up 🧠
On , Multiple Sclerosis NZ is calling for urgent government investment in neurologists, MS nurse specialists, and allied healthcare teams.
A new study shows a 67% rise in MS diagnoses between 2006 and 2022, with over 5000 Kiwis now estimated to be living with MS.
But too many face delayed diagnoses, especially Māori and Pacific peoples, due to a chronic shortage of specialists and unequal access to care. This delay costs people time, quality of life, and long-term health.
“When MS is diagnosed early, treatment can slow progression and improve lives. But right now, New Zealand has just 47 neurologists – well below what we need.”
It’s time for action. MS care can’t wait.
