Hospice Tairāwhiti Strawberry Festival

Comments

BDO Gisborne were recently part of the local collective working hard to raise much needed funds at the Hospice Tairāwhiti Strawberry Festival.

Despite the gloomy weather, the sun eventually made an appearance and was so great to see the amount of people coming down to join in the fun. A wonderful day for whānau!

We would also like to acknowledge the efforts of our following staff members who volunteered their time to be a part of this special community fundraiser - our sincerest thanks to Isaac, Marise, Mere and Zoe along with other staff members that popped in to show their support on the day.

Check out the following article in Monday's Gisborne Herald -

The Gizzy sun was shining and the strawberries were aplenty as we celebrated the annual Hospice Tairāwhiti Strawberry Festival on Saturday. The festival was a great day of whānau filled fun, flower crowns, live performances and of course strawberries! The event was a success, raising money to go towards the valued care services provided by Hospice Tairawhiti.

We are proud to sponsor this whānau fun day out.

Hospice Tairawhiti

We are starting a virtual Matariki Remembrance Community Group over on the Hospice Tairawhiti Page. You are all welcome to join if you would like to share the love of someone you are missing this year.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/188260422616809/

It has been a strange year to connect with our community in a normal way. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we haven't held a remembrance service in 2020. So please join us as we unite our remembrance with the celebration of Matariki. We invite you all to be a part of the Hospice Tairawhiti Matariki Rememberance group. Share the love of your loved ones with our community.

We will be discussing how the stars of Matariki complement the Hospice Tairawhiti's Philosophy over the next few days. We look forward to building our Matariki Remembrance community over the next month. Link on groups or join by following this link https://www.facebook.com/groups/188260422616809/

It is PANCAKE DAY!

Over on the main page, we have just shared the same image to launch our Lent Donation Campaign, 40 days - 40 items donated. But over her with you strawberry lovers, I thought that we would share the recipe. Fluffy pancakes are my sons favourite, he has been making them will me since he was 3. He loves the measuring and whipping the egg whites with the electric whisk.

Ingredients - 4 servings
3 large Eggs
115 grams Flour
1 heaped teaspoon of baking powder
140 ml Milk (warmed)
1 pinch Salt (we always forget that bit)
Strawberries (sliced or diced)

First separate the eggs, putting the whites into one bowl and the yolks into another.

Add the flour, baking powder and milk to the yolks and mix to a smooth thick batter.

Whisk the whites with the salt until they form stiff peaks.

Fold into the batter - it is now ready to use. It is an awesome texture.

Heat a good non-stick pan on medium heat. Pour some of your batter into the pan and fry for a couple of minutes until it starts to look golden and firm. At this point sprinkle your strawberries on to the uncooked side before loosening with a spatula and flipping the pancake over. Continue frying until both sides are golden.

It is best to heat the pan and then turn it down before cooking to achieve that perfect pancake.

Have fun, making your pancakes - Sarah

Thank you to all our event volunteers on this special day - International Volunteer Day.

Happy International Volunteer Day!

Today is a very special day and we would like to take this chance to thank and celebrate all our dedicated, kind, and hardworking volunteers across Tairawhiti.

Hospice Tairawhiti relies on the help of our fantastic volunteers who donate their time, and talents.

Whether it is at the Hospice Shop, as a youth ambassador, a songster, sitting with our patients, offering respite care to a whanau member, fundraising at events, baking and every other area - we are so grateful to every volunteer. Thank you for making a difference to Hospice Tairawhiti every single day.

Knowing we have such a dedicated group of people backing us is so heartwarming. We simply could not function without you and are so incredibly lucky to have your support. Thank you, volunteers!

What would a Strawberry Festival be without a bouncy castle? No good! Well, then it is a good job Craigs Investment Partners know how to invest smartly. The bouncy castle at the Hospice Tairāwhiti Strawberry Festival this year was funded by Craigs Investment Partners.

We are grateful to the value Craigs Investment Partners place on supporting the Hospice Tairāwhiti and our Strawberry Festival fundraising event. Supporters like these help ensure that all money raised from the fundraising event reaches our patients across the district.

Please support our local Craigs Investment Partners if you are seeking investment or business advice.
