Tēnā koutou katoa and greetings!

Do you live within the boundaries of Tairāwhiti Gisborne, or are you part of a community group located in this area? – The local Community Organisation Grants Scheme committee would like to invite you to contribute to the local COGS priorities for 2022.

The Community Organisation Grants Scheme (COGS) provides government-funded grants to support voluntary and not-for-profit organisations working in local communities and neighbourhoods.
Due to the current COVID situation, the usual COGS public meeting has been replaced with a survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/97HDWJK - This quick survey is open till Thursday 25th March.

What is COGS?
• COGS funds a wide range of non-profit, community-driven social services and projects, from Riding for the Disabled to toy libraries to programmes for teenagers in remote rural areas.
• Grants can provide support for smaller groups and those with limited access to other funding, as well as supporting new and established initiatives.
• Most of the grants COGS distributes are for $3000 or less and are the lifeblood of many small groups trying to make a difference in their community. Throughout New Zealand, 37 local COGS committees distribute this government funding to support community-owned and community-driven social services and projects that contribute to the development of vibrant and sustainable whanau, hapū, iwi and communities.
• Funding Round Opens: 20 April, closes 18 May. Funding decisions by 31 July.

For more information about COGS and how to apply click: https://www.communitymatters.govt.nz/community-organisations-grants-scheme/

Tuakana Teina Chair Mentoring Programme 📣

To support the vision of community organisations in Aotearoa New Zealand to be well governed, Community Governance NZ and the Institute of Directors (IoD) have formed a new partnership, to form the Tuakana Teina Chair Mentoring Programme. This collaboration aims to strengthen and support the community governance sector.

A massive congratulations, to the 25 successful mentees, 2 are from Tairāwhiti:
▪️ Dan Croskery - Chair of Gisborne Boardriders
▪️ Eloise Wallace - Chair Museums Aotearoa

We worked closely with Dan in submitting his application and are thrilled he is now part of this new programme. His experience will help inform Taupua Tairāwhiti on best practice for establishing a local governance programme here in Tairāwhiti.

We wish both Dan and Eloise all the best as they embark on the next phase of their governance journey. We are so pleased that IOD selected some regional participants as part of their first intake.
