When I opened the doors to this studio, I wanted the space to feel just as considered as the experience I wanted to offer.
Spacious and private, with soft surroundings and a calm, unhurried feel — somewhere you can settle in, take a breath and feel completely comfortable.
Because your fitting is more than simply making adjustments to a dress. It’s part of the journey, and I want you to enjoy being here too.

Not every veil needs to look like a veil.
There are so many beautiful ways to incorporate a little something extra into your bridal look — a sheer cape, a draped veil, a delicate shoulder piece, or something completely your own.
Bridalwear doesn’t have to follow the styles we’ve become used to seeing. Sometimes the most beautiful details are the unexpected ones.

The little details matter. 🤍
With this gown, we changed the back to a lace-up finish to give her the extra room she needed — but it’s the small details that make it look intentional and beautifully finished.
Making sure each strap crosses the same way, sits neatly and pulls evenly might seem minor, but together those little things make all the difference.
It’s not just about making a dress fit. It’s about making the alteration look like it was always meant to be there.
The past few weeks have been filled with wonderful conversations about weddings, dresses and all the little details that make each celebration unique 🤍
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many lovely couples at the recent Hitched - Manawatu Wedding Showcase and Copthorne Weddings Wairarapa expo’s and hearing about the plans you’re making for your big day.

Today feels like a bit of a milestone.
Not only am I back at another wedding expo meeting so many lovely couples, but today also marks my first official day working full-time in The Sewing Lab.
It feels pretty fitting to be spending day one surrounded by future brides and doing what I love.

A little about the person behind The Sewing Lab... 💕
I’m Gina!
🌸 I’m a sucker for florals, lace and beautiful details... and if it’s pink, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll find it somewhere in my studio!
🧵 I’ve been sewing for around 25 years, and I love helping every bride feel like her gown was made just for her.
👰 My favourite part of every fitting is seeing a bride’s face light up when she sees herself in the mirror.
🏑 If I’m not in the studio, you’ll usually find me on the sideline of a sports field - coach, manager or cheerleader, depending on who’s playing. And if I’m lucky, I might even get to dust off my own hockey stick.
☕ Coffee over tea, always... but only before lunch, otherwise I’ll be staring at the ceiling all night!
💗 I’m also a wife and mum, so life outside the studio is just as busy as life inside it - and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

At just five years old, she saw another bride wearing this dress.
From that moment, she decided that one day, it would be her wedding dress.
More than 30 years later, that dream became possible when the gown was gifted to her just weeks before her wedding.
There was just one problem...
It didn’t fit.
She had already bought a backup dress, unsure if her childhood dream could become reality. But she wasn’t ready to give up on the dress she’d loved for decades.
Together, we transformed the gown with a lace-up back to create the perfect fit, added delicate straps, and even included a hidden pocket—all while preserving the character and history that made it so special.
This is why I love what I do. Bridal alterations aren’t just about making a dress fit. They’re about giving brides the chance to wear the dress they’ve dreamed of, sometimes for a lifetime.
Thank you for trusting me with such an incredible story. It was an absolute privilege to help make a five-year-old’s dream come true. 🤍

Because so many of you have trusted me with your gowns, I’m so excited to share that I will be working from The Sewing Lab full time from 1 August!
Along with this exciting milestone comes new studio hours, making it even easier to book bridal fittings or pop in during walk-in hours.
