A beautiful update π
Seth is now cancer free π, and today he completed his beads of courage β€.
He is full of life, heβs bounced back into full blown toddler mode. He loves swimming, water, going on car rides (even if itβs just for school pick ups) his fish, running around everywhere, and food!
Heβs happier, laughing a lot more and more content, he really is full of life now and itβs amazing.
Heβs just doing great!
Financially, the family would not have survived this past year without the generosity of mostly strangers. So, to round out what has been a rollercoaster 12 months, we as Seth's family wanted to show you how great heβs doing, and say how grateful, thankful and humbled we are by everyone's support. πππ
We're all a little bit stunned, but feeling so very very blessed.
The mass that showed on Seths kidney is not cancer ππ.
Just had last chemo and now over to genetics and the renal team πππ
Hi all, it's been a while since we updated.
Since Seths last surgery he's been recovering well at home, with finishing up the lasts bits of chemo.
The expectation from this was cancers gone, manage with the 60% kidney that remains (which is working well) until he's older and needs a transplant. - with a few other bits along the way.
We've been getting ready to write the post that said he's done it! ....But, on the last visit to Starship, whilst having the last chemo, scans and tests, we received very unexpected and gutting news.
The space created by removing part of the kidney and tumour on the last surgery, has been filled with another tumor.
This has just been biopsied, but the expectation is it will show the same cancer.
The Doctors are still working on a plan.
But so far we know, Seths not strong enough to manage without his kidney and go straight to dialysis. He's now about to undergo very strong chemo which comes with it longer stays and potential complications.
He can't go straight for a transplant due to the chemo.
We've all been getting our head around this as a family and what it means for Seth. What we know though is it's not over, the hard stuffs yet to come and it's going to be a very long journey medically for Seth.
We wanted to keep everyone in the loop as our gratitude as a family for all the wider family, community and financial support, have helped in what's been a tough year.
When we know what's clearer ahead of us we'll let you know.
Aunty Amy, on behalf of Seths family π..

A few days ago Seth got to come home β€.
It's not yet smooth sailing, and he has to go back to Starship shortly for another op and continued chemo, but things are going forward.
So thank you beautiful people who've sent warm wishes and thoughts, those who've continued to donate to the family.
Everything is received with gratitude and heartfelt thanks π
This amazing young man is a close friend of our family. He's done shave for a cure for 5 years, and now he's just this morning completed 132.1kms in 24 hours!
All his efforts are raising funds to support cancer research.
Seth wouldn't be in the position he is today without a team of amazing medical professionals doing all the can to help him beat cancer. It's people like Jensen and the rest of the students at FAHS who've raised over $20,000 recently, that make families like ours journey to fight easier.
Huge admiration and appreciation Jensen and team.
You all rock π

This was Seth last night, looking the most peaceful and comfortable he has been since the operation last Monday.
It was very successful with 60% of his kidney remaining. We are all so thankful to the amazing team of surgeons who salvaged every millimeter they could.
Since the operation he has had every minor complication that could have come from it, alll adding up to quite a major post surgery recovery.
All fingers are crossed though that the worst has passed and he'll be running around any day now π

Our little man has had a bumpy couple of days with temperatures, extra tubes, pain managment, blood pressure and bowel issues going on.
But, today has been a better day π

His Dorothy and shark stayed with him all dayπ
News from Ben in Starship.
Seths not long out of surgery and in High Dependency Care Unit
He had a complex 6 hour surgery where they removed 1/3 of his kidney and part of his bladder. They have too inserted a Stent.
Only in The HDU for the 1-1 care needed due to the huge surgery on his little body. His stats are good just keeping an eye on his bp, no unexpected complications though.
It will be a long recovery and he will require more chemo.
The family are though doing really well and working on facing just one day at a time.

Feilding community rallies, raises $15,000 for toddler with rare cancer Some were there for a bargain, but most of them were simply there for a little boy, and his family, doing it tough.

An update from Seths mum Shanelle from Starship.
We're up at the ward and heβs happy and a lot more relaxed with the nurses π.
We spoke to the surgeon thatβs doing his surgery tomorrow and he is confident they'll be able to save half of his remaining kidney. They said though there is a likelihood of infection post surgery and as It'll be a long and complex surgery, we've been told expect a long recovery.
He also said that Seth will have to continue chemotherapy afterwards as it is likely he still has cancerous cells in his system.
We'll have to wait till we see Sethβs oncologist to confirm that part, because we assumed the chemo was over and after the surgery he'd be cancer free.
But the good news is the surgeon is confident.
