Ladies and gentlefolk, this is my darling baby brother. He stepped in front of my lens at a recent family function while I was setting up for a group photo trying to be a silly goose and instead I caught the smoulder. What a cutie! Proud of this guy, love you K!

Everybody, meet sweet little August Grant Erickson. I love this little boy so so much and am so honoured to have photographed this family throughout their journey — their wedding, their pregnancy, and now their first child. Kat and Adam are dear friends of ours (love you both!) and I am elated for them and can’t wait to follow along on Gus’s adventures. Welcome earthside dude, you’re going to do so many cool things!

Who am I?

Simone is my middle name. It was the name of my maternal grandmother. The egg that created me was already fully formed in my mother’s ovaries while she was a fetus in my grandmother’s womb. Birth is ancient and generational and in our dna! I could not do what I do without my grandmother, my ancestors, and the millions of women who have given birth since the beginning of time.

To be honest, I knew very little about birth when I became pregnant. I knew what I was shown in my grade 6 s*x ed class (which was terrifying!) and I knew that my mother had painful and long births. Not something I was looking forward to… plus anyone who had a scary birth story seemed to pop up and tell me as soon as I conceived.

However, I also had amazing women tell me their positive birth stories, show me images and videos, and guide me to books and resources that would help me have a very confident natural homebirth! I am so blessed to have educated myself on how to labour well and everything that factors in to birth. I hired a doula and had a midwife- but mostly I listened to that primal inner knowing that is my body doing what it was built to do!

No matter how you choose to bring your baby into the world (and sometimes it is beyond your choice and aren’t we so lucky to have modern medicine to help us!) I am here to help you learn what you need to know, and also how to listen to your own inner wisdom.
