Reuben loves trucks.⁠

He spends countless hours working on them, fixing them up, talking with teachers and mechanics, watching videos, and learning everything he can. Since his trucks have tended to be on the older side, they've needed a fair bit of TLC along the way—and he's become pretty adept at diagnosing problems, turning a wrench, and bringing them back to life.⁠
⁠
With all that love and dedication, we knew his truck had to make an appearance in their grad photos.⁠
⁠
While I know who the real stars of these photos are, I also know how much it meant to him to have his truck included. It's such a big part of who he is and the skills he's developing. And the fact that these photos were taken on the ranch where I grew up? That just adds another layer of meaning for us.⁠

And them dancing on the truck bed with that gorgeous view and light?!?!? ⁠

Sometimes there are other members of the family who are convinced it's their big day too. ⁠

Maple decided to steal the spotlight during some of Sienna's grad photos, and honestly, we're not too mad about it. She's pretty adorable!!⁠

Okay! Time to talk about two very special grads. ⁠
⁠
I’ll save the really sappy mom stuff for another post. For now, let’s talk about how much fun this shoot was.⁠
⁠
These two are just so good together. They make each other laugh, genuinely enjoy spending time together, and treat each other with so much kindness and respect. As a mom, it’s pretty amazing to witness. (Wait... am I getting sappy already? Okay, I'll stop. 😆)⁠
⁠
When we were planning their grad photos, Reuben said, "We have to get some photos playing pool." It's something they love doing together—and it might be one of the few things they actually argue about... who's the better player!!! (I think it's Ainsley!) ⁠
⁠
Since we were headed down to the ranch near Longview afterward, we thought the epic would be the perfect place to start the evening off. They've played there a few times, and with a quick phone call, the hotel graciously allowed us to use their incredible space for part of the shoot.⁠
⁠
One of my favourite parts? My dad came along to the bar with us. Three generations hanging out together made the evening even more special! Thanks for coming Dad!⁠

This session felt completely like Reuben and Ainsley— chilling, laughing, and doing one of the things they genuinely love doing together. ⁠
⁠
(And notice what I did with the pool ball numbers?!?!? I thought of that one about 2 in the morning the night before. Quite proud of myself there)⁠

9 friends. All graduating today from Western Canada High School.

They decided to have their grad photos right back where it all started — where most of them first met over a decade ago at William Reid School. Some of them I hadn’t seen since I was taller than them… as you can see, things have changed just a little bit!

A couple buddies were added through the years, and I love that they wanted to do a photo session together. The result was a super fun evening of all of them hanging out, looking incredibly handsome and, of course, capturing memories. They played on the yellow spin-ny thing and swung on swings. All the things they did as little 8 year olds.

After WR, we headed over to River Park to give them a different look and one more view of the city that many of them will be leaving come September.

I have so much fun hearing where everyone is headed next and the different plans they have going forward. Such a great group of young men, and I can’t wait to see the paths they carve for themselves in the years ahead.

Moms, you got to give me the updates!!!!

Another Western Canada High School grad that I have known since the first days of elementary school. ⁠

I still have a photo on my fridge from around Grade 4 of Nolan with my son Reuben and another buddy. They were great friends and spent so much time together through endless playdates and adventures.⁠
⁠
I remember one day driving through Marda Loop and spotting him walking with a friend. By then, he and Reuben had been at different schools for a couple of years, so I didn’t see him very often anymore. But he rushed over and gave me a hug through the car window. It absolutely made my day. I think as parents, we sometimes miss some of the friendships our kids had when they were younger — especially as schools and life start taking everyone in different directions. Lucky for me, I've seen him every year for photos!⁠

I was super excited to photograph his grad session here at cSPACE. We had done family photos here a few years ago, and since it’s close to his house, it felt especially fitting. I just love the mix of architecture and trees here — it has such a great feel for grad photos.⁠

Being the biggest high school in Calgary, I’ve photographed quite a few grads from this school this year… so I’ll be spreading out WCHS photos out over the next few days!⁠

I love how grad season in Calgary coincides with blossoms and greenery. The colours add so much energy and life to the celebration!⁠

What fun with these six Bowness grads who have known each other for YEARS!! Three of them have actually known each other since preschool and I am so glad they opted for a friends session! ⁠

We just took these photos a couple of days ago, and I couldn’t wait to get a few edited for them to smile at today. The rain was definitely threatening for a while, but in the end we ended up with an absolutely gorgeous evening and the best light. ⁠

Today is their grad, and I wanted to make sure to send them a huge CONGRATS!! Hope you're having an amazing celebration!!⁠

This grad season has been SO MUCH fun!!! I have absolutely loved photographing high school graduates. It's been a little hard to keep up with the editing side, but I'm going to try and share lots over the next few days as many of these grads are celebrating over the next week.⁠

The season started with Naiya’s session on Britannia Ridge and at the Sandy Beach bridge. I first met her family when our kids started at the same elementary school over a decade ago, so this one felt especially full circle. ⁠

And my goodness, what a pleasure to talk with her again and hear about her high school years and what's ahead for her.⁠
⁠
