Golden Ring Co-op had their annual Crab Feast on September 18. A few other Maryland region co-ops joined in on the fun and fellowship. They showed their Ravens pride by raffling off a fun filled basket put together by their amazing entertainment committee. The Maryland region is always looking forward to showing more Ravens pride and enjoying their co-op community!

Exciting changes are happening at Bishop Co-op (MI), where a $14 million renovation is in the homestretch. Built in 1971, Bishop holds a special place in CSI’s history as our second co-op constructed from the ground up. We expect this co-op to be at maximum occupancy before the end of this calendar year. It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden passing of Karen Jones, Senior Certification Specialist. Karen was a valued member of the CSI Support & Development team for over 24 years. Karen always brought a smile and word of encouragement to her co-workers and the members in the Maryland region. She freely shared her experience and wisdom with all of us. Her loss is deeply felt. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Karen’s family, friends, co-workers, members and all who had the privilege of know her. Rest in Peace, Karen.

Last week Senator Elissa Slotkin’s regional manager for Oakland County spent time meeting with us at Royal Oak Manor (MI). The co-op officers joined us for a wonderful discussion about our housing model and their personal experience as members and volunteers. We also discussed challenges in our daily operations, as well as administrative challenges with preservation projects. It was a great discussion, followed by a first floor tour. We are so grateful for Senator Slotkin’s support for affordable senior housing. Last year our offices collaborated with each other on the Senator’s pro-affordable housing bill. We were grateful for the time her staff took with us Friday to shine a light on Royal Oak Manor, its beautiful members, and our successful cooperative affordable housing model.

In Memory of Mildred Stanley

It is with sadness that we share the news of the passing of Mildred Stanley, a longtime member and former CSI board member (MI). Mildred passed away on September 7 at the age of 97.

Mildred served on CSI’s Board of Directors from 2014 through 2017, bringing her experience, wisdom, and commitment to our cooperative community to her service on the board. Her willingness to give her time and talents helped strengthen CSI and the cooperative movement we are all a part of.

As we reflect on Mildred’s life, we are grateful for the many ways she contributed to CSI and for the legacy she leaves within our cooperative family. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Essex Co-op, located in Maryland, held their Annual Crab Feast on August 26. They had a great turn out in their newly renovated community room where they enjoyed their delicious crabs! The DJ provided lots of fun music as the members danced and performed karaoke throughout the afternoon!
