What a wonderful Saturday this weekend at **Northeast Congress of Optometry in Boston!** 🏙️👓taking place under the auspices of OEPF.

We had a fantastic time gathering in the beautiful lecture halls of the New England College of Optometry, right in the heart of historic downtown Boston.

👀 Can improving eye movements improve reading?

A new pilot study gives our profession something important to discuss.

Researchers followed 21 children ages 7–12 with reading performance below expectations. After six weeks of structured oculomotor training and daily home exercises, the intervention group demonstrated improvements in eye-movement performance, reading speed and accuracy, visual perception, and crowding measures.

But here's the important part:

This was a small, non-randomized pilot study.

It does not prove that visual intervention treats dyslexia or that vision is the cause of reading difficulties.

Instead, it raises better questions:

🔹 Which visual dysfunctions are clinically meaningful?
🔹 Which children are appropriate candidates for intervention?
🔹 What outcomes should we measure?
🔹 How do we distinguish visual dysfunction from broader learning challenges?
