As usual we offer a safe place to go for evacuated guinea pigs displaced due to the developing Garden Grove disaster.

Becky: Pictures of my very imperfect pig for tax. Friends there have been a few changes lately to our page. I am no longer the person doing all of the post. Member Lori P. will also be making post here and member Kat will be tying in to our instagram account. Lori and I will try to remember to add which one of us a particular post is coming from so there is no confusion.

I know most of you have seen piggies made from this pattern. I made this one in 2019. I was so disappointed in it that I never closed it or gave it a face. There were so many fiddly things with the ears, toes and matching the seam exactly. Today I finally finished her and have decided she will go to pignic for some sort of adoption no matter how imperfect. I'm headed downstairs to make her a brother. Wish us luck for a better result..

Friday I was so happy to have Willow (AKA White) and Parson come to meet Ebony. While not traumatic it did end with Willow and Parson kind of wanting to make themselves very small as you can see. This was a first attempt to find Ebony friends. So what happened? Well she was not aggressive, she just casually walked up to them and bit their ears. Not grooming or cleaning which is what we thought she was going for but nice hard chomps. She in no way appeared aggressive. It was some of the oddest behavior that I've seen. I'm thinking she has been a single pig for too long. I just don't know. I think it's going to be interesting to see how this progresses.

Enrico and I made an unexpected trip to the vet today. I put everyone on the scale for their weekly weights and he was down 90 grams! Even though he was acting perfectly normal, eating hay and veggies, drinking water, and had nice looking 🫘, I got a same day appointment. A large mystery weight loss is a sign that something is brewing. The vet took X-rays and found he was in the early stage of GI stasis with large amounts of gas all over in his stomach and abdomen. Reason: unknown (but we all know it’s because it was a Friday before a holiday weekend and guinea pigs LOVE drama! 😉).

Enrico is an MGPR sanctuary pig whose veterinary expenses are covered by the rescue.

I have an announcement to make. Pignic has been scheduled for Sunday October 4. There will be some changes this year most likely. However I’m already hard at work making totes and cellphone bags. Will they be sold? Will they be in auctions? Who knows but they will be there. Will you?

This is a very sad day. Yesterday when I went to give the pigs morning cookies Dainty did not greet me on top of their hide. I immediately knew something was wrong. I rushed to to the vet where the x-ray showed she had intestinal blockage. Sadly she passed there overnight. Necropsy showed a torsion that then started leaking into the abdomen. These sweet animals can be so fragile. A reminder to make every moment with them count. Dainty you are missed.

We are so pleased to be the featured rescue in the current issue of Guinea Pig Magazine. One of our fosters Paige was also featured in this issue. Sadly she is moving out of the area and will be greatly missed. Guinea Pig Magazine is a wonderful resource for guinea pig owners. With the huge amount of misinformation out there these days, it is comforting to have a reliable publication to turn to.
