Building your Network / Networking Strategies - JP Morgan Learning Series 08/08/2023

Looking forward to the first of six sessions in the Learning Series sponsored by our friends at JP Morgan Chase.

One of the things I say to clients often, is be strategic with your networking. Someone once was telling me how busy they were that week, "I have 7 different networking events to attend this week!" My response was "Do you have to go to all 7?" After a discussion on what was taking place at these 7 "networking events", it was narrowed down to 2 that she "had to" attend. Be strategic with your time.

The Learning Series will be free to Montgomery County Hispanic Chamber members, $10 for non-MCHC members.

Q: Isn't this just for restaurants?
A: No, this is not just for restaurants.

Q: We received PPP, I was told I wouldn't qualify?
A: Wrong, the law was amended and one can qualify even if the business received PPP funds.

Q: Is this a loan?
A: No, under the ERTC law, small businesses can qualify for a partial refund of previously paid payroll taxes to W2 employees during specific quarters in 2020 & 2021.

Q: How do I get started?
A: email me [email protected]

While we may at times have certain limitations or constraints on our choices, we generally have the freedom to make decisions that can shape our lives and impact the world around us.

Start that task, implement that new process at your business, begin that business plan, skip work and go play golf, eat the dessert first at the luncheon, etc.

You either will or you won't, the choice is yours. ✌🏽

When working with an existing business, it can vary what that business needs assistance with. I tailor my approach to each client's unique needs and goals, and just as important -- their style. How we collaborate to identify areas for improvement, and develop personalized strategies and action plans to drive success is how I differentiate myself. We are all unique, we learn differently and respond accordingly.

How can I help you?

Social media provides a platform for direct and immediate communication with your customers. You can build meaningful relationships, address customer concerns, and gather valuable feedback by engaging with your audience through comments, messages, and social media posts.

Networking is not just about making new connections; it's also about nurturing existing ones. Regularly engage with your network by sending messages, sharing interesting articles or resources, and congratulating them on their achievements. Staying in touch helps to strengthen relationships and ensures you remain top of mind.

Something I do is have coffee with one person a month, an individual that I want to know better. No agenda, I'm not selling I literally want to get to know that individual and what they do, why they do it, basically hear their story. Some of my strongest relationships, friends, were born from this excercise. ☕️

As we gather with friends and family on this day, let us enjoy our freedoms and recognize the price that has been paid for them.

When launching your business, one is watching every dollar. Do you really need a website? Whether or not you do this depends on your specific goals, circumstances, and product or service.

While I agree that a website is not the only way to establish an online presence, I share with clients that having a website does help legitimize the business. Evaluating your specific needs and determining the best approach to achieve your objectives is essential.

I was a pet owner (Coco) before becoming a busy entrepreneur. It was so easy juggling that schedule I added a 2nd dog (Chewy)🤥

Not sure why my friends didn't stop me from doing that. I'm kidding; I love that little guy (chewy is the little teacup in the pictures).

Being a business owner is a lonely road at times; we love what we do, but sometimes it gets bonkers. Our four-legged ones are a much-needed boost of love and feel-good spirits.

A common trait in the entrepreneurial mindset is believing in themselves and their abilities. One must be confident and motivated to turn their ideas into reality. Entrepreneurs are self-starters who can take the initiative and work independently to achieve their goals.

Building and maintaining a personal board of directors requires effort, reciprocity, and a commitment to nurturing relationships. Regular communication, feedback, and gratitude for their support are vital to maintaining strong relationships with your board members.

Having a plan in place is essential for several reasons. One being it provides operational guidance.

A well-crafted business plan outlines the operational and organizational structure of your business. It helps you define roles and responsibilities, identify essential resources and partnerships, and develop efficient processes. Having a good understanding of your operations ensures smooth operations and enhances your chances of success.

There are many reasons to work with a business coach or a .

Starting or running a business can be overwhelming and filled with uncertainties. A coach can offer support, encouragement, and guidance during challenging times. Their expertise and reassurance can boost your confidence and help you navigate obstacles more effectively.

Go ahead, laugh at the office.🤣

Laughter has the incredible ability to lift spirits and create a positive atmosphere within the workplace. When employees feel safe finding humor in everyday situations, it reduces stress and tension, fostering a sense of camaraderie among team members. Who doesn't want higher job satisfaction, improved teamwork, and a greater willingness to collaborate at the office?

Great food, sweet lady Chef Betty is. If you haven’t been to Xalisko Cocina Mexicana you’re missing out.

FYI — if Tex Mex is your “go to,” prepare for your palette to be shocked. This is Mexican food, damn good Mexican food.

More news to come soon on upcoming events 😉

It's impossible for us to share the entire list of authentic, handmade recipes offered at Xalisko Cocina Mexicana. Not because it's a secret, if fact if you have the opportunity to sit down with Chef Beatriz Martines she'll tell you herself the heart and passion that goes into making each dish. From sourcing authentic Corn and grinding it up to make , to using , a fungus considered a delicacy in . Eating at her restaurant feels like a passport to the Mexico outside the grips of the tourist traps.

Chef Beatriz's dedication and passion for food took her from being a cafeteria lunch lady to stage at one of the best restaurants in the world: the renowned three-star Michelin El Celler de Can Roca & BBVA located in Girona, Catalonia, Spain. We're proud to have her in our community as she opens her first family-owned restaurant in .

We have a lot of things planned with Chef Beatriz that we're excited to share with you soon. In the meantime, make sure to stop by and try the Enmoladas, her line of Ceviches, the Pansita De Puerco and the Esquites Con Tuetano - you wont regret it!

Wishing all the Mexican moms a beautiful day! You don't have to be Mexican born, or have Mexican in our family tree, to call your mom and tell her you love her.🇲🇽❤️

How is your MOP?

The O in MOP is for "Ownership."

Ownership (in this example) doesn't mean being the business owner. Taking ownership of tasks, responsibilities, and challenges shows trustworthiness and reliability.

I remember reading somewhere that taking ownership can be found at the intersection of individual passion, initiative and accountability.

Stepping into with positive vibes🔥

There are several reasons why I recommend clients review their plans.

If not with someone from the SBDC, there are folks like myself and others who will view your business in a different light with brainstorming and authentic conversations. What comes from that? New ideas for marketing your product or service, maybe a new concept or process or a new revenue stream.

As a reminder, new ideas are great and all...someone has to execute them though. 🤓

"Networking" is such an overused word. When attending these events, are you genuinely networking or clinging to your buddies? When you participated in the last networking event, did you meet at least one person you could have a follow-up conversation?

How about your message, your pitch? Is it clear? How does your branding appear to your audience? Who is your audience? How is your competition doing, is it the industry, or are you falling behind? Think about it, where and how are you spending your time when you are supposed to be "networking?"

Timeline photos 04/18/2023

It's true, there's power in numbers.

Think of the last time you had a challenge or obstacle at your business. Did you contact a mentor, a partner business, a trusted friend from a different department? Don't live on that island all by yourself. When you collaborate with other business owners, or other colleagues, you have more eyes/minds to help resolve the problem.

Solopreneurs encounter an array of obstacles and challenges along the way. Add in all the responsibilities, and now we have a "time management" issue.

How many of us are "multi-taskers"? Stop it, put your hands down. Instead of attempting to master multi-tasking, prioritize your tasks to ensure your day succeeds.

Btw -- one doesn't need to be a business owner to have time management issues ⏱️

This is a great way to get in front of several bankers and ask questions or get some feedback from the lender him/herself.

Hats off to the U.S. Small Business Administration Houston office and my friends with the SHSU SBDC for putting this on.

As I talk to more and more business about the ERTCs it is apparent that there is confusion out there.

I've partnered with a local successful restaurant owner who went through the process and secured credits for his three restaurants, there is a tax attorney on the team as well so one can take comfort this is being accomplished properly and within the stipulations of the ERTC rules.

Let a local guy help you secure your tax credits 💸
