These guys are experts at breaking down dung. They incorporate much of it back into the soil, increasing soil fertility. 🌱

But did you also know they reproduce on dung and use dung as their nurseries? 👶 🧸🍼

They also reduce pest and parasite populations. 🦠

As dung beetles consume and breakdown dung they destroy the habitat these pests need to survive.

Dung beetles have a poopy job but it is necessary for a healthy ecosystem.🪲

You don’t need a bird feeder or a massive back yard to attract a ton of different birds to your Florida garden.

10 years ago I would kill every bug I saw.

5 years ago I would only kill the “bad” bugs.

Today, I rarely kill any.

Of course we don’t want termites in the home or roaches in the kitchen. Chemicals serve a purpose. 🙂

But when it comes to outdoor spaces, in my opinion, we have taken it too far.

It’s all connected. When we poison mole crickets in turf we are poisoning everything. Birds, worms, and our waterways.

Gardening has taught me patience with the natural world.

I have a deeper understanding of what it means to take a holistic approach to many of the issues they want us to believe our yards are suffering from.

In summary, live plants were meant to have holes. This is healthy! Only artificial plants are without imperfections. 😆
