DAIN BEAT PARVO, TWICE!! 😭🙌🏻

Our last hospitalized puppy, Dain, has been the biggest emotional parvo rollercoaster I have ever experienced. Every single 8-hour update seemed to be the complete opposite of the one before it. There were multiple times I prepared myself to make the decision to end his suffering if he declined any further. Our sweet boy was reaching fever temps of 106 and could not stop vomiting 😭

So I truly cannot believe I finally get to say this… DAIN HAS BEAT PARVO!!!!!! 😭❤️‍🩹

After 6 days of hospitalization, if Dain continues on this course overnight, HE GETS TO COME HOME TOMORROW MORNING!!! He’ll continue treatment here at home alongside his sister, Violet, while they both work toward making a full recovery. 🥹

Our additional testing has also come back negative, meaning what we were terrified to believe is actually true: these puppies contracted parvo TWICE. How this is even possible is truly beyond me. They survived parvo, were vaccinated afterward, and somehow ended up fighting this horrible virus all over again. Their immune system + vaccines failed them. I am contacting the manufacturer to figure out what could have possibly gone wrong and hopefully get some answers so this does not repeat.

After losing Xaden and Andie and then watching Violet and Dain fight for their life for an entire week, getting to bring Dain home alive feels absolutely unreal. ❤️‍🩹 I am so over joyed to know Violet will have a sibling to join her at home.

Now we have to tackle the financial aftermath of this nightmare. I have personally paid $2,900 toward their vet bills, and we still have a balance of over $2,000 remaining. I’m currently waiting to receive our current up to date bill.

If absolutely anyone is able to help take even a small piece of this burden off our rescue, I would be more grateful than I could ever put into words. Every $5, $10, share, and donation adds up. These babies received every possible chance to fight because we refused to give up on them. 🐾

I officially laid our sweet baby Andie to rest this morning. 💔

I held her until the very end, making sure she felt safe and loved as she passed. She fought so incredibly hard for two long days, but her little body was tired. She was suffering immensely, and we knew she was likely going to pass on her own at any time. The kindest thing I could do for her was to let her go peacefully in my arms.

Andie has now joined her rowdy brother Xaden (black pup) in puppy heaven. 🤍🐶🪽

I’m truly at such a loss that I don’t have many words right now. Three months ago, by the grace of God, I was able to save all four of these babies. Had they waited much longer for help, I truly believe we would have lost every single one of them back then. I never imagined that just three months later, I would be grieving two of the four.

As for our other two babies, Violet was cleared to come home comfortably by our vet this morning after I said goodbye to Andie. She is doing well, but I will continue very strict monitoring, medications, and her parvo diet to make sure she reaches a 110% recovery.

Dain, unfortunately, is still unstable and remains hospitalized. He will make progress and give us hope, and then take a few steps backward again. Right now, we truly have no idea what the rest of his hospitalization will look like or which direction this will go. But Dain is still fighting, so his veterinary team and I are going to keep fighting right alongside him. 🩶

Four babies came to me together to be rescued, and survived… but 2 are now watching over us, and 2 are still fighting to make it to the other side of this. And I truly don’t know when I will recover from this.

I hate having to make this post, but I need to be transparent about where our rescue is at right now. 🚨🚨

Effective immediately, Paws & Pastures Animal Rescue is completely closed to all new intakes. As much as it breaks my heart to say no when an animal needs us, financially and physically, I simply cannot take on another animal right now.

Over the last few weeks alone, I have personally spent multiple thousands of dollars out of my own pocket to keep this rescue operating and make sure the animals already in our care have everything they need. Vet bills, medications, food, supplies, transportation, emergency care — it adds up faster than I can even explain. I am currently headed to our vet now to hospitalize these 2 sweet souls.

There is genuinely nothing I hate more than asking people for money. I licensed my rescue efforts because I needed financial assistance for me to continue helping the animals waiting to cross my path, and I have always been more than willing to put my own money into making that happen. I did it for multiple years 100% on my own. But I have reached a point where I cannot continue funding an entire rescue solely out of my own pockets.

We have animals depending on us right now who deserve every ounce of our attention and every resource we have available. Until we can get caught back up financially and get our current animals through what we are facing, we cannot responsibly accept another animal into our care.

If donating isn’t possible, sharing this post costs nothing and can make just as much of a difference by helping us reach someone who can.

I will always do everything in my power for these animals. But I also have to recognize when doing everything myself is no longer sustainable.

I have heartbreaking news to share with our rescue family. 💔

Our newest intake from 7/14, Midnight, passed away in my arms at 2:35am this morning after fighting fading kitten syndrome hard. He was estimated to be only 10–12 weeks old.

I found Midnight shortly after midnight in the middle of the street after dropping off supplies to one of our wonderful fosters. He was extremely emaciated, dehydrated & heat exhausted. There was no way I was looking the other way, so I immediately loaded him up.

Thankfully, he made my life easy because this little guy had QUITE the appetite! 🥹 He was eating and gaining weight great.

We headed to our awesome new vet partner immediately for a f***l test because this poor guy had terrible gut issues, and they got him started on the mends with multiple dewormers. (I’ve been planning to officially announce this clinic for a few intakes now—they also SAVED one of our sweet new street babies who broke with Parvo. That story is coming. 🤍)

Even though Midnight was eating and gaining weight, I knew in my heart from the beginning that this could still go either way. I just hoped and prayed with everything in me that we would get the happy ending.

My heart is absolutely shattered for Midnight. He deserved better. He deserved to live. Instead, I held him as he left this world, and now I just have to wait for his ashes to come home. 💔

All of this to say: if you can’t foster, can’t adopt, or can’t donate, at the VERY least, please set a bowl of water outside and keep it fresh for the unfortunate animals trying to survive these harsh summer days.

It costs almost nothing and takes only a minute, but to an animal like Midnight, it could mean everything.

For tonight, he gets to call Paws & Pastures home.

It may only be one night, but sometimes one night is the missing piece between a dog and the rest of his life. 🥹

Sammy is in the middle of a pretty incredible cross country journey, with his favorite stuffy by his side, and when we were asked if we could be one small part of getting him where he’s meant to be… the answer was an immediate yes.

His story is a special one, and this sweet face has already stolen our hearts in the 5 minutes he’s been in our care. 🥹🤎

We’re vlogging our little piece of Sammy’s journey today, and I cannot WAIT to share it with you later tonight.
