Springfield Fire Department Explorer Post 300 is a great opportunity for the area youth ages 14-21 to learn more about the fire and EMS career field. We meet twice a month and train on several different topics over the year related to fire and EMS. Our members are able see what being a firefighter is like with our ride along with SFD.

We finally did some EMS stuff. After hours and days of asking, we finally caved. So we strapped them to down on a backboard and let them carry each other around. We also honed some skills on firefighter movement, drags and carrying up and down stairs.

Come see instructor Miller help Springfield Illinois Fire Department take on the Springfield Police Department - Illinois in the American tradition of (out of their prime) softball. We would play fast pitch baseball but I dont know if our rotator cuffs would hold out. All the same, it will be a great night and great way to bring on the 2026 Springfield Lucky Horseshoes opening night May 27th against the Danville Dans!!!!

It was an amazing day with Sangamon County Sheriff Explorers. This morning we ran Rescue Task Force drills. Essentially they are learning to work with law enforcement making tactical insertions and extractions. All of these young adults were amazing and worked hard and learned, while having fun. This afternoon, we split and law learned some forcible entry techniques and got to move some hose and flow some water. Fire went with law enforcement and worked on clearing room and making traffic stops leading to arrests. The level of professionalism of both of these groups is amazing. They were attentive and learn extremely quick.

These kids are the future leaders of the fire service. Most would run from extra responsibility and work.

Hose management and deployment is essential to this industry. Other than life safety its the bread and butter of everything we do. The kids worked on deploying, and then managing a charged handline.

Quite a few of the same kids that are Explorers have also taken CACC Fire Science as a high school dual credit elective. Its impressive to see the future of the fire service!

A massive thank you to for taking the time and effort to donate and bring cars out for the kids. The last 3 years they have supported us. They are amazing. Cutting, rolling, lifting and spreading are the fundamentals of vehicle extrication. These evolutions are what build the foundation to critical thinking. As always these kids impress me beyond words.
