Good Dads is a nonprofit with a mission to help kids and communities one dad at a time.

Good Dads began when business leaders in Springfield, Missouri recognized the impact of father absence on child well-being and came together for the purpose of supporting engaged fathers. They understand the value in helping fathers become more engaged with their children. They welcome the chance to promote father involvement in a way that benefits them, their customers and their community. They appreciate the potential to provide leadership in ways unique to their position.

Rhonda and Ava repped Good Dads at the MO CRSP conference in Columbia last week! It was great to make connections with other groups who are working hard to serve the community. Always a great conference!

Today is a super-important holiday: National Read a Book Day! We all know that children are little sponges, and research shows that they are more likely to love reading when the grown-ups in their lives are readers, too.

Celebrate the holiday by heading to a local library to pick out a book together. You could even search for your childhood favorite (any other Hungry Hungry Caterpillar fans out there? πŸ™‹) to read to your children.

As you've heard on the Good Dads Podcast before, it is hard to resist the urge to "rescue" your children from discomfort.

It's one thing to "rescue" a toddler who's about to run out into traffic, but it's another thing entirely for an overly protective parent (you've probably heard the disparaging nickname "helicopter parent") whose life mission is to "rescue" their child from ... things they don't need saved from.

Our latest guest on the pod, Jeremy, gives the perfect example of a conflict with your child's coach. Maybe your son or daughter feels like he or she has been a benchwarmer for too long, or that Coach is picking on them for something the whole team is responsible for.

What is a dad to do? When is it okay to quit a sport? Can children do hard things? We talk about all these earth-shattering questions and more on the newest episode. We hope you'll tune in!

Wait, when is the school play? What is your grade in math? When's that science diorama due?

If you've ever felt a little lost at the start of the school year, you're not alone. Thankfully, there are some built-in resources in your child's school that can help you stay informed and engaged. In a recent blog, a retired educator shared his tips for getting to know what your student is up to all day in school.

Shazam for birds? This dad loves using tech to his advantage when he's outdoors, like identifying birdsong on an app on his phone!

Our latest guest on the pod is Rudy Martinez, a dad of two and the Manager at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center. What a great way to blend tech into outdoor adventures.

Birding is a great way to start paying attention to the details when you head outside (in the forest or just walking down the city street).

Catch the full episode of the Good Dads podcast with Rudy where we talk about birding and a whole lot more! https://gooddads.com/podcast

How is your child feeling now that they're back in school? Nervous? Stressed? Tired? Ready for the weekend?

Some dads assume that they don't matter much to their child's educations. But that couldn't be farther from the truth! In fact, research shows us that a positively involved dad has an enormous impact on student success.

This week on the blog we sit down with an educator and step-dad whose mission is to help dads see just how important they are in the classroom. He also has some great tips for making this school year a great one!

We doubt you'd ever need an excuse to have a picnic! Celebrate this silly holiday by visiting a community garden, getting a small treat from an ice cream truck, or packing lunch to enjoy at your favorite park! What a fun (and inexpensive) way to make memories with Dad! πŸ¦πŸ˜ŽπŸ‰
