The Springfield Police Department has arrested two men, and one is wanted, in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in April.

On April 29, 2026, officers responded to a residence in the 5100 block of E. 11th Street, where they found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital. A 17-year-old male later died from his injuries, while a 20-year-old male was treated and released.

Investigators determined the 17-year-old victim and Khaled Jamar Brown, 19, met at the residence to conduct a narcotics transaction. After the transaction, Travauntay Lawton Patterson, 21, struck the 20-year-old victim in the back of the head and shot him in the left arm. The 17-year-old victim was then shot in the back and again in the left arm. Witnesses reported the second shot was fired through the front door of the residence as the 17-year-old victim attempted to close it.

Brown and Patterson left the residence, and the 20-year-old victim contacted emergency services. Before first responders arrived, Giovannie D’Angelo Simmons, 22, was given the purchased narcotics and instructed to leave the residence.

Patterson is charged with second degree murder and was taken into custody by the United States Marshal’s Service on June 2, 2026, in Tallahassee, Florida.

Brown is charged with second degree murder and has an active arrest warrant.

Simmons is charged with tampering with evidence and possession of a controlled substance and was taken into custody on May 1, 2026, by the Springfield Police Department.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are possible.

The Springfield Police Department is actively working to identify all individuals involved and determine a motive for the shooting. On April 18, 2026, Amy Marie Brown, 43, of Panama City, was arrested by the Alleghany County, Virginia, Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for attempted first-degree homicide issued by the Springfield Police Department.

On April 16, 2026, Brown arrived unannounced at her ex-husband’s residence in the 2900 block of Avon Road. An argument began at the front door. During the altercation, Brown produced a handgun and fired multiple times, striking the victim in the left hand and on the left side of his head.

The victim drove himself and his daughter to a family member’s residence and was then taken for medical treatment. He remains hospitalized in a stable condition.

A warrant for Brown’s arrest on a charge of attempted first-degree murder was obtained on April 16. Investigators determined Brown had fled the state, and the warrant was adopted by the U.S. Marshals Service.

On April 18, Brown was located at a motel in Alleghany County, Virginia, and taken into custody by the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office.

Additional charges are expected.

On April 16, 2026, the Springfield Police Department responded to a report of a shooting victim at Ascension Sacred Heart Bay. Initial information indicated the shooting occurred at a residence in the 2900 block of Avon Road. Investigators responded to the hospital and learned the victim sustained gunshot wounds to the hand and head.

Officers responding to the Avon Road residence located spent and live shell casings on the front porch. Officers forced entry into the home to conduct a safety check and observed a large amount of blood and additional evidence related to the shooting. A search warrant was obtained, and crime scene processing is ongoing.

The victim is in stable but critical condition at the hospital.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute. A warrant has been obtained charging the suspect with attempted murder.
