Matthew 9:22 Jesus turned and saw her. “Have courage, daughter,” he said. “Your faith has saved you.” And the woman was made well from that moment.

Why is faith in Jesus "saving faith?"
What are some things we put faith in instead of Jesus?

Matthew 9:23-24 When Jesus came to the leader’s house, he saw the flute players and a crowd lamenting loudly. “Leave,” he said, “because the girl is not dead but asleep.” And they laughed at him.

Why is it easier to mourn than believe?
What areas of your life is Jesus ready to restore?

Matthew 9:14-17
Discipleship questions:

Matthew 9:15 Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests be sad while the groom is with them? The time will come when the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

Is Jesus saying that fasting is wrong and unnecessary?
Can you think of any ways that followers of Jesus do the “right thing” in the wrong ways and at the wrong times? Are you comfortable sharing any examples in your own life?

Matthew 9:17 And no one puts new w**e into old w**eskins. Otherwise, the skins burst, the w**e spills out, and the skins are ruined. No, they put new w**e into fresh w**eskins, and both are preserved.”

Why do people try to fit the Gospel of Jesus Christ into the old traditions, rhythms and habits of their old lives?

I'm going to do start doing something that I hope will be a blessing to your home and community. I'm going to start posting some small group questions based on the text I preached out of the previous Sunday. My hope is, these will connect the Sunday preaching and teaching to our daily walk as disciples of Christ. Here are some questions for you to ponder on your own or with family and friends. You could even drop an answer in the comments and we can have some meaningful discussion here!

Matthew 9:9-13 Small group questions:

Matthew 9:9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office, and he said to him, “Follow me,” and he got up and followed him.

What makes following Jesus an easy decision/task?
What makes following Jesus a difficult decision/task?

Matthew 9:13 Go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice. For I didn’t come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

What does Jesus mean in this passage?
How is it possible for people who follow all the rules to miss out on following Jesus?

Was there a time when you were invited to follow Jesus? Has there been a time when you have invited someone else to follow Jesus?
