Due to the weather forecast, we will not be venturing out for the festivities in Chester today as planned. We had so much fun yesterday and thank everyone who stopped by our booth to get some puppy love! We appreciate everyone's understanding! 🌧 ☔️

We are here at Barrett and Valley Associates, INC. On the green in Chester! We have adorable puppies, Torta Caprese, Mousse and Kladdkaka here waiting to give you love! We will be here until 4pm! Stop by to get some freebies like animal snacks, Frisbees and candy!

Meet Alice! 🐶🐾

Alice is a 2 year old Bloodhound mix with a whole lot of love to give! She is an amazing girl who loves other dogs, does great with kids and thrives on walks and playtime!

Because Alice has the classic hound nose, she will need to be kept on a leash during walks or be confined to a fenced yard--no off leash roaming for this explorer!

We aren't going to lie, the shelter environment has been tough on Alice, and being in the kennels has taken a toll on her. She truly needs a loving home as soon as possible for her mental health and well-being.

Our staff and volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that all the animals in our care are loved, exercised and given fun activities while they are with us, but we are not a home.

As of September 2026, Vermont has already had 46 confirmed cases of Rabies. There have also been many local cases of Parvovirus in local dogs in our surrounding towns. Take a moment to read this post, to make sure you and your pet(s) are protected.🐾

Rabies is a deadly, 100% fatal virus--and because it is zoonotic, it can easily spread from wildlife to pets and humans. The best and ONLY defense is prevention! Protect your furry family members (and yourselves) by keeping their vaccinations up to date. Rabies vaccinations are also required by state law for all cats, dogs, wolf hybrids and ferrets.

Canine parvovirus (parvo) is a highly contagious, life-threatening viral disease that primarily attacks a dog's gastrointestinal tract and bone marrow. Parvo is spread through direct contact with an infected dog or indirect contact with contaminated f***s. Cats are also susceptible to panleukopenia, a different strain of parvovirus. Prevention is highly effective through puppy/kitten and adult dog/cat vaccinations.

Meet Angie! 👑🐾

Angie is 15 years old and is here at SHS waiting for her new family to come scoop her up! It has been a bit of a journey with Angie since her arrival, and we are happy we could be part of her story, helping her along the way.

Angie was surrendered locally and when we got her, she was quite thin. We did some bloodwork, which showed that Angie had some thyroid issues, likely causing her weight loss. It took us awhile to find her dose, but now Angie is nice and chunky and waiting for her new home!

Angie is an absolute sweetheart who wants nothing more than to live out her golden years surrounded by love, warmth and of course--good food! Angie is on a daily medication to treat her thyroid condition, which is keeping her feeling great, happy and regulated!

When you adopt a senior pet, you give a deserving elder animal a comfortable home, and you open up space in our shelter for the next pet that needs us. That's .
