I entered the current decade at last, yesterday. After resisting many requests, I set up Venmo (at least I think I did) for Camp Chihuahua. Either [email protected] or -Mayol
does the trick, I think. My phone number works too, but I hate to post that here for the entire universe to see. I get enough weird calls now.

Had pets of a different sort in the back yard…I finally figured out why John Doe kept going out and barking unendingly at what I thought was nothing.
Silly me! After much discussion with Angela and Jane at Illinois Humane, it was decided we should all try to live in harmony for the sake of the possum kids. Apparently the media attention was finally more than they could take, or maybe the kids were just ready to go, the Possum Arms Inn seemed strangely vacant this morning.

Like large, white potato chips, the ceiling paint flutters to the floor! Happy Friday!

OPEN today. Chewy and yesterday’s man of the hour, Dexter, are the dogs of the day today. Come say hello.

Waiting in the parking lot again. Consultation was done before noon…Dex is getting his bloodwork done, and presumably by now, his first treatment. One down, 15 to go. We will see a lot of I-72 this summer, it looks like. I spent part of the wait at the arboretum and gardens across the street. I had never been there before to see the gardens, and it seemed like a good place to go to wrap my head around what I had committed to do for Dex.

Dex is on the road

Dexter and I are heading to U of I in the morning, to see what our plan of action will be for his lymphoma. Because of this, The Cardologist will have to stay closed tomorrow, Wednesday 5/27. We hope there is a plan. Some of you have already donated, shortly after Dexter’s news broke. Dex and I both truly appreciate your support. I know this won’t be cheap. Thank you.

A chubby Dexter pictured here arrived from Florida in December of 2024, via Carol Rodgers’ Helping Paw Project. Classified as a biter and therefore not especially adoptable, he came to Camp Chihuahua to live. A much slimmer boy now, he was suspected and diagnosed earlier this week, and today confirmed by U of I Oncology, with Lymphoma. I guess my next step is off to U of I to see what treatment will cost for this sweet guy. Ugh.

I love when rescues, out of sheer need, reach far out for names…Magnavox, Sharp, Panasonic, Toshiba, Zenith, RCA, Curtis Mathis? Not sure though that a 2:30 am potty call is a solid reason for returning a pup to a shelter. Should be glad they are going out, I am.

Magnavox is back with us because his mom said he insists on getting up every morning at 2:30 to go to the potty and no matter what she does she can’t get him to sleep the night. If you would like to meet this little one call 504-458-0531 to schedule a Meet & Greet

If you are all tuckered out from carrying that heavy shopping bag of cards and socks, or your latte from Schlee’s, or those fine finds from Corrine, take a load off in one our chairs on the sunny side of 6th Street ( at least til noon anyway!) The Cardologist, adding to the 6th Street streetscape amenities since 1988.
