Springfield Lutheran School
Springfield Lutheran School is a welcoming and caring environment focused on helping students grow spiritually, academically, socially and emotionally.
The mission of SLS is to provide a Christian environment for the growth and development of children's souls, minds, and bodies, equipping each child to strive towards what God intended him or her to be.

The SLS sports season began this past week with both Cross Country and volleyball teams in action. Cross Country competed in Bolivar and everyone finished the race well, which was moved to an earlier time to fight the unusual heat the area has been dealing with. The Lady Saints A and B volleyball teams played hard-fought matches against Polk County Christian School on Friday at home. The A team fought hard in two sets with great passing but didn't bring home the wins this time. The B team stretched the games to a third set but couldn't quite capture the win.
We are incredibly proud of our Saints and the example they display! The Lady Saints compete against Thomas Jefferson tonight and St. Peter's tomorrow. Cross Country competes in the Queen City After Dark race tomorrow night, so be sure to come out and show your support for our Saints!

Each month, students at SLS learn a hymn of the month as a way to help students put God's Word in their hearts and teach classic music. This month, students are learning "Take My Life and Let it Be." Want to see what they've learned in previous years? Scroll through the pictures!

Support the SLS Athletics Program!
The Springfield Lutheran School athletics program is independent of the SLS budget. Each year, SLS Athletics is responsible for raising funds to fully support all programs and activities. Funding helps purchase new athletic equipment, maintains current equipment, provides uniforms, pays tournament fees, referee fees, MSHSSA fees and stipends for coaches.
Our anticipated expenses for this current academic year are around $15,000. Below, you will see three levels of sponsorship. Please prayerfully consider supporting SLS Athletics at one of the following levels, or a level of your choice.
Your tax-deductible donation should be made payable to SLS Athletics and may be dropped off at the school office or mailed to Joel Telschow, Athletic Director, at the address below. In order to fulfill our commitment to you, please contact us by September 11th. For more information on sponsorship levels, contact [email protected].
SLS Athletics offers students the opportunity to participate in 5-8 girls' and boys' cross country, 6-8 girls’ volleyball, 6-8 girls’ and boys’ basketball, 6-8 girls’ cheerleading, 5-8 girls’ and boys’ track, 7-8 scholar bowl, and 5-8 archery. We compete against other area Lutheran schools, Christian schools, and Springfield Public Schools. We are very proud of our students, their hard work and accomplishments, and the positive way they represent our faith, school and community at the various local and state competitions.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Your support is a blessing to our students!

Each quarter, Springfield Lutheran School supports one organization as a way to help students serve. For our first-quarter chapel offerings, we will be supporting Thunder Thrift, the new thrift store supporting Springfield Lutheran High School.
Students and families are invited to donate gently used items in good condition to help stock the store. Clean out your closets, bookshelves, toy and game cabinets, sports gear, and craft supplies and bring your donations to the collection barrels at school!
-Gently used clothing (sizes 4T and larger) and shoes
-Purses, backpacks, belts, scarves, hats, ties, and other accessories
-Books, DVDs, CDs, and video games
-Toys, puzzles, board games, and card games
-Sports apparel, balls, gloves, and other smaller sporting goods
-Yarn, fabric, art supplies, and other craft/hobby supplies
-Costumes, Christmas décor, and other seasonal items
Monetary offerings are also welcome and will help purchase cleaning supplies and cover other operating expenses for Thunder Thrift.
Thunder Thrift is a volunteer-run initiative, and proceeds directly support the mission of Springfield Lutheran High School. Thank you for your generosity and for helping make Christ-centered Lutheran high school education possible in our community!

School is in session and it’s already a blast. Some of our prealgebra students escaped from a math Escape Room. They had to find an antidote within 45 minutes to escape and survive. We are happy to report that all students lived, and clearly had a great time!

School starts tomorrow and some of Redeemer Lutheran Church youth and the Redeemer School Committee made some amazing displays to welcome our students and families! Such a kind thing to do!

SLS is excited to welcome a new Athletic Director for the 2026-2027 school year. Please help us welcome Mr. Joel Telschow to the SLS athletic program! Joel is a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, has served as a substitute teacher at SLS, and has years of experience coaching and administrating programs at the collegiate level.
We also want to take a moment to thank our previous Athletic Director, Mrs. Wanner. Mrs. Wanner has faithfully served as the SLS Athletic Director for 20 years and she (and her husband, Mr. Wanner) have been a huge blessing to our coaches and athletes. The Wanners are still at SLS as teachers, don't worry!
Need to reach our athletic director? Email Joel Telschow at [email protected].
