"President Donald Trump welcomed faith leaders from across the nation to the White House on Thursday to emphasize the role prayer has played in America’s foundation and to commemorate the National Day of Prayer. During the event, the 47th president also signed an executive order creating a religious liberty commission that will “vigorously enforce the longstanding and extensive protections for religious freedom established in federal law.”

The Rose Garden ceremony was filled with meaningful moments of faith. The gathering began with the hymn “Amazing Grace,” and many leaders—including the president—opened the proceedings with prayer."

As America nears the 250th anniversary of its founding, President Trump wants the nation to recognize its dependence on God. He has launched "America Prays," an initiative emphasizing the enduring role of faith in the country's identity.

"America was founded on faith, as we know, and I've been saying it for a long time. And when faith gets weaker, our country seems to get weaker. When faith gets stronger, as it is right now, we're having a very good period of time," he said.
