“Good enough” isn’t a very good strategy.
You can't recruit elite when you're offering "everyone else" money.
Let that sink in.
The public wants the best of the best — cops who are sharper, more disciplined, and more capable than everyone else. Higher standards. Zero excuses. Elite performance.
But then we turn around and offer average salaries, average training, and average facilities.
Newsflash: You don’t get elite talent on a budget that screams “good enough.”
Police departments are expected to deliver world-class policing while operating on shoestring budgets. They’re doing everything they can with what they’ve got… but the system is rigged for mediocrity, then everyone acts shocked when mediocrity shows up.
You want elite cops?
Pay them like they’re elite.
Train them like they’re elite.
Give them the tools and facilities that actually match the job they’re expected to do.
It’s not complicated. Stop pretending it is.

The SPOA is proud to announce our endorsement for Melanie Stinnett for Missouri Senate District 30!
Representative Melanie Stinnett proudly serves Springfield in the Missouri House of Representatives and has built a reputation as a strong advocate for safe communities, strong families, and responsible government.
Before entering public service, Melanie built a successful pediatric therapy clinic in Springfield that helped thousands of Missouri children and created jobs for local families. Her work with children and families shaped her commitment to practical, results-driven leadership and a deep understanding of what Missouri families need to thrive.
Since being elected to the Missouri House, Melanie has been a consistent and dependable supporter of Missouri’s law enforcement community. She has backed legislation and budget priorities to ensure officers and first responders have the resources, training, and support they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.
Melanie sponsored and passed House Bill 946, legislation that helps recruit and retain law enforcement officers in Missouri by allowing their spouses to more easily transfer professional licenses when relocating to our state. This commonsense reform reduces barriers for law enforcement families and makes Missouri a more attractive place for officers to live, work, and serve.
In addition, Melanie has supported investments in law enforcement training, public safety infrastructure, and community-based safety initiatives. She has consistently opposed efforts to defund police and has stood firmly with officers who put their lives on the line every day.
Melanie believes safe communities begin with strong partnerships between law enforcement and the people they serve. She is committed to ensuring Missouri remains a state where officers are respected, supported, and equipped to protect our neighborhoods.
Melanie lives in Springfield with her husband Nathan and their two sons. She remains deeply committed to serving her community and working every day to make Missouri a safer, stronger place to live and raise a family.
Cast your vote for Melanie Stinnett this fall!

Time to focus on what Springfield citizens have repeatedly told you in survey after survey after survey.
Public safety is the most important thing to your constituents.
We are grossly understaffed with more and more being asked of us every day and not enough officers to do it.
Fix it.

March 16th is a day we will always have on our calendars and in our hearts. Most woke up to the news and couldn’t believe it until they checked messages from friends and family. The reality of this profession was made real that night.
More importantly, the support from our community was put in display. While our department mourned the loss of our brother in blue, Chris Walsh, and stood beside Josiah Overton, the community showed their love for our hard working officers.
Chris’ dedication to our country and community will live on through service and dedication. Today we honor him for his sacrifice.

There is no greater honor due to man than to those who fall in battle for a righteous cause. We honor those men and are eternally grateful for their sacrifice. May their finals acts of bravery inspire us to keep fighting the good fight against evil in this world and protecting those who cannot protect themselves. That is our calling and we are devoted to carrying it out, whatever the cost.
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.
