Surface Warriors

The Douglas Munro Chapter of the Surface Navy Association held a motivating discussion about the World War II history of the CGC Alexander Hamilton and the Cuttermen who fought aboard her in the Battle of the Atlantic at the USCG Headquarters in Washington DC, on 19 August 2026. CDR Nolan Cain led the discussion and highlighted Cuttermen heroes including Fireman 3/C John McKinney , SN Charles Sheerin and Mess Attendant Charles Tyner. The events in 1942 off of the Icelandic coast highlighted the close collaboration at sea between the US Navy and Coast Guard in the Battle of the Atlantic. Those ties carry on today in operations across the globe. Among those in attendance - Deputy Commandant for Operations (DCO) VADM Nathan Moore, SNA's National VP for the USCG VADM (Ret) Andy Tiongson, RDML (Ret) Scott Cleninden, SNA Executive Director CAPT (Ret) Tom Halvorson and Cuttermen from across the HQ staff. Another great opportunity for professional mariners to relax and spend time together. Bravo Zulu to the Douglas Munro Chapter!"
