I Roadtrip across the country in search of unique wildlife species to share with the world! #herping
Behold the longest venomous snake in the americas, trumped in length my only the black mamba and king cobra (globally). An absolute MONSTROSITY of a snake. Definitely up there as a highlight moment in my wildlife career. Huge shoutout to and .ex for making this happen. Despite a supposedly 15-20% survival rate on (recorded) bites, this animal is widely known by herpetologists to be a true “gentle giant”. Apparently a bite will make you bleed from every oraface though (not chill) so I wasn’t in any rush to disturb this snake. We left it be, as-found, to lie wait for prey. They’ll sometimes sit in ambush like that for months straight. Just as it was described to me by .of.ian, we found this beast sitting in open rainforest canopy near a log. Picture-perfect. Sorry for the shaky video, I was literally vibrating with adrenaline and excitement. We earned every bit of this snake. Trudging through the rainforest in soaked clothes for hours on end isn’t for the feint of heart. Couldn’t believe my eyes when we finally found this thing at 2 am. So stoked.
