What a wonderful evening in New York! Last week, we gathered for the SOAR! New York Awards Dinner and celebrated 40 years of caring for aging religious women and men.

As SOAR! President Kristen Wise shared:

"Everyone in this room helps make the work of SOAR! possible. Through your partnership and generosity, thousands of aging religious women and men receive the support they need to age with dignity and grace and have for four decades as we celebrate the 40th anniversary or SOAR!.

Behind every grant is a religious community caring for its aging members. An accessible bathroom, a new HVAC system, safety improvements or furnishings for an infirmary may seem like practical needs, but their impact is much greater. They help aging Sisters, Brothers and Priests continue to live safely and comfortably within the communities they have spent their lives building and serving. "

Thank you to all who attended the New York Awards Dinner on Thursday! The evening was a powerful reminder of the way we can come together to address the important needs of aging Catholic Sisters, Brothers and Priests across the United States. 🙏 More photos to come soon!

With support from SOAR!, the Maryknoll Sisters purchased an accessible 2023 Toyota Sienna that allows Sisters who use wheelchairs to travel safely to medical appointments, physical therapy, and dental care, and to enjoy recreational outings together.

What does a life of service look like?

For Bishop Edmund J. Whalen, it has meant teaching, forming seminarians, serving parish communities, leading a Catholic high school, and dedicating his priesthood to the people of the Archdiocese of New York.

On September 17, SOAR! will honor Bishop Whalen with the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Award at our 40th Anniversary New York Awards Dinner.

The SOAR! Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Kristen R. Wise as President of SOAR!

Kristen brings more than a decade of dedicated service to SOAR!, most recently serving as Director of Grantmaking. During her tenure, she has helped modernize our grantmaking, expand outreach, and strengthen partnerships with religious congregations, Catholic organizations, and philanthropic partners across the country.

"It is an incredible honor to serve as the next President of SOAR! For the past 40 years, SOAR! has built a remarkable legacy of caring for the women and men religious who have devoted their lives to serving others," she said. "I am deeply grateful for the foundation established by those who have led this organization before me, and I look forward to building on that legacy while leading SOAR! into its next chapter."
