“Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day, which marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. Let's celebrate freedom and equality.”

Morel Ink facilities will be open tomorrow, June 19–while we take the opportunity to learn more about the newest Federal Holiday.

“The United States officially designated June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence Day. It was signed into law by President Joe Biden on June 17, 2021, making it the 11th federal holiday.”

The Historical Legacy of Juneteenth Juneteenth is an often overlooked event in our nation’s history. On June 19, 1865, Union troops freed enslaved African Americans in Galveston Bay and across Texas some two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

At Morel Ink we celebrate our LGBTQ+ employees, clients, friends, neighbors and family year-round—and a little bit extra in June.

One of our favorite traditions is marching together in the Portland Pride parade. Tyler Smart organizes this event annually. Here’s what he has to say.

“Happy Pride Month, everyone!

Can you believe Portland's Pride Parade is almost a month away? We’d love to show up in a big, joyful, Morel Ink way on July 19th, and it would be fabulous to have some great participation!

This year’s theme is "Made with Pride," which couldn’t be a better fit for who we are. Sure, we’re a custom manufacturer... But we’re also a team that believes in creating things with intention, care, and community at the center. Pride is a chance to celebrate our LGBTQ+ coworkers, friends, and family, and to stand together in a way that reflects our values.

If you've marched with us before, we'd love to have you with us again. If you've never marched, this is a great year to jump in. Your presence truly adds to the experience. Bring your energy, your support, your people, and let’s show up loud and proud.

If you’d like to join us on July 19th, please RSVP by replying directly to me (please don't reply-all). Feel free to invite friends and family outside of Morel as well. When you RSVP, include shirt sizes for everyone attending. Please RSVP by Tuesday June 30th, and note that more details will be given as we get closer to the event.”

Bastards-The Grunge Musical

A story of the Fatherless Children of Gen X

Bastards explores, with hauntingly dissonant chords, the judgments placed on innocents. The children of non-traditional families, who endure elitists' opinions, and are unfairly condemned, simply because of the circumstances of their births; and their deeply human reactions to such scrutiny. Delving into the underscoring elements of how social and political events impact friendships and parenting, the script examines themes of choice, pain, addiction… and how beauty and art can co-mingle simultaneously with the darkest nights of the soul.

Staged Reading: June 2026 - Portland

The NBA has received a lot of headlines in the last few days as the season reached its final games.

The metro area is expecting hot temperatures in the mid-90s. As temperatures climb, there are several things to keep in mind to beat the heat.

Stay out of the sun to prevent health-related illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Twice a day, check on friends, family and neighbors who may have a higher risk of heat-related illnesses.

Never leave infants, pets or children in parked cars – it can get dangerously hot quickly.

Be careful out on the water, our local rivers are very cold and moving fast! Wear a life jacket and swim with a buddy.

How creative is this?! What a partnership, Portland Opera and the Portland Cherry Bombs, along with parks, libraries and wineries.

“Opera a la Cart Season is upon us! Portland Opera is partnering with Portland Parks, local libraries, and wineries to bring free opera to you!

Inspired by Portland’s food cart culture, Opera a la Cart is a mobile performance venue that brings live opera performance directly into the community spaces where people gather. Designed and built by architecture students at Portland State University, the cart features a fold-out stage and a “menu” of operatic specials of the day to be sung by local artists.”
