Follow these few guidelines to ensure a comfortable first Float. Avoid shaving or waxing the morning of your appointment. The high salt concentration will sting any freshly shaven skin. Skip the Caffeine: Avoid coffee or stimulants for 2–3 hours before your float. It helps your nervous system relax faster. Eat Light: Don’t float on a completely empty stomach, but avoid a heavy meal so you aren’t distracted by digestion.Hair Care: If you have recently dyed your hair, make sure it is totally colorfast before going in. Contacts: Bring a case to remove your contact lenses. If saltwater gets into your eye with a lens in, it will sting. For the first 10–20 minutes, floating will feel alien. You might notice your neck holding tension or hear your heartbeat. Use this time to breathe deeply and let your muscles un-knot. You can leave the pod door cracked, keep internal LED lights on, or turn them completely off for pure sensory deprivation. Avoid touching your face. If you get salt in your eyes, a small spray bottle of fresh water and a washcloth are kept inside the pod for you to use. The first session is primarily a familiarization phase where your brain learns to let go of gravity and external input. Going in with an open mind without expecting a “perfect meditation” will give you the best result.

Coming into Memorial day we want to remind everyone that veterans receive 20% off services and merchandise. On the 28th of this month we will be hosting another VetTune pop-up so they can set up their RoXiva light for $30. session. This is FREE for Veterans and their families. Float Harder members pay $25. per session. Hypnagogic light therapy is a neurostimulation technique that uses flickering stroboscopic and steady lights to guide the brain into hypnagogia—the transitional, dream-like state between wakefulness and sleep. The device emits complex, synchronized patterns of light that hit the optic nerve. This visual stimulation coaxes the brain into deep Alpha and Theta brainwave states—the same states achieved during deep, long-term meditation. Users often experience vivid, kaleidoscopic, dream-like imagery and profound feelings of relaxation without needing to focus on breathwork or clear their minds. Call to book 207-400-5187.
Celebrating Memorial Day can be a deeply personal and meaningful experience. Whether you are honoring fallen military service member or remembering a personal loved one, you can curate the day to your needs. Walking in nature, journaling, or writing a letter, and taking a break from daily routines can help bring some peace. The float tank could be a good tribute space to reflect. We will be staying open on Memorial Day for those who need some solitary space.

Why does the combination of magnesium absorption and endorphin release work? The reduction of stress hormones during a float session is supported by a few key physical reactions. The high concentration of Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) in the water allows magnesium to be absorbed through the skin. Magnesium naturally inhibits the hormones that drive your adrenal glands to release stress chemicals like cortisol. In addition to lowering cortisol, floating stimulates the release of endorphins—the body’s natural mood boosters and pain relievers.

You have talked about floating incessantly, you’ve handed out the gift cards, maybe you sent your referral code to a friend or family member and they’re still not ready to float. There are a lot of float curious people out there that need a little more convincing. The pressure to relax is not very relaxing. Here are a few words of advice from some sage floaters to pass on. First, mentally prepare yourself by letting go of expectations. Don’t expect a transcendent experience; your first float is often about learning to trust the water. Your first float is for learning, your second for relaxing, and your third for exploring. Set an Intention by spending a few minutes before showering to set a simple goal, such as “I am safe and here to rest” or simply “I am here to relax”.

We are sponsoring another pop-up event with our friends at VetTune on May 28th. They will be setting up their RoXiva light for hypnagogic light therapy in our lounge. Call the shop to book a session and hopefully you can pair it with a Float. Many people find that stacking these modalities can deepen the restorative effects of both experiences. VetTune is located in Brunswick Maine and focuses on empowering veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors to inspire themselves through creative expression, and comprehensive self-care. VetTune is not about putting people into one box or one tribe. It is about creating a safe environment that they can explore what helps them reconnect, heal, and move forward.
We help participants explore creative expression, restorative experiences, and community connection — then decide for themselves what fits.

Have you booked your Flower Moon float yet? The Full Flower Moon in Scorpio on May 1, 2026 (1:23 p.m. ET), acts as a powerful catalyst for personal metamorphosis, intense emotional release, and truth revelations. Known as a “micromoon,” this lunation shines a light on hidden secrets, taboo subjects, and the deep, dark waters of the soul, urging everyone to let go of what no longer serves them to facilitate personal growth. Scorpio’s energy makes this a transformative time, pushing for metamorphosis rather than superficial change. It requires facing uncomfortable truths and confronting what you have been avoiding. It is an optimal time to “weed” your life, shedding habits, relationships, or burdens to make way for new growth, aligning with the “blooming” theme of May. According to astrologists, this moon influences shared assets, financial investments, sexuality, and the “shadow self”. Secrets surrounding these topics may come to light.
