πŸΎπŸš’ Special Visitors at Port Richey Fire Department! πŸš’πŸΎ

We had some very special guests stop by the station today from The Runaways Animal Rescue, and they brought along some adorable four-legged friends who quickly became the stars of the day! ❀️🐢

Did you know that Dalmatians have a long and historic connection to the fire service? Before fire engines were motorized, firefighters responded to emergencies with horse-drawn steam engines. Dalmatians were used to run alongside the horses, helping to keep them calm while clearing the way through busy streets. Once on scene, the dogs would guard the horses and equipment while firefighters battled the blaze.

Their loyalty, intelligence, and natural bond with horses made them the perfect firehouse companions, and over time they became an enduring symbol of the fire service that continues to this day.

Thank you to Runaways Animal Rescue for stopping by and sharing these wonderful animals with us. We always enjoy opportunities to support organizations that make a difference in the lives of pets and our community.

πŸŒ€πŸš’ Hurricane Season Begins Today πŸš’πŸŒ€

Today marks the first day of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season. While we all hope for a quiet season, now is the time to prepare before a storm threatens our area.

βœ”οΈ Know your evacuation zone
βœ”οΈ Develop a plan for your family and pets
βœ”οΈ Build or refresh your emergency supply kit
βœ”οΈ Review important documents and insurance information
βœ”οΈ Stay informed through trusted weather and emergency management sources

Being prepared today can make all the difference tomorrow. Don't wait until a storm is in the Gulf to make critical decisions for your family.

The City of Port Richey Fire Department encourages all City of Port Richey residents and visitors to take a few minutes to review their hurricane preparedness plans, know their evacuation zone, and discuss where they will go if an evacuation order is issued.

Preparation saves lives. Together, we can help keep our community safe throughout hurricane season.

Stay prepared. Stay informed. Stay safe. πŸŒ€πŸŒ΄πŸš’

Earlier this month, crews from the Port Richey Fire Department came together to complete our semi-annual Water Rescue and Rapid Diver training 🌊🚀🀿

This important training allows our members to review lessons learned, strengthen both surface and subsurface water rescue techniques, and complete practical evaluations to maintain proficiency in these critical skills. πŸ›Ÿ

Training also included the use of the AquaEye, an advanced underwater sonar device designed to assist rescuers in locating victims and submerged vehicles in the water.

Technology and continuous training like this help ensure our crews are prepared to protect and serve our community during water emergencies. We are proud of the dedication our personnel continue to show every day. πŸš’πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

πŸš€πŸš‘ Marine Unit Training πŸš‘πŸš€

This past weekend, the Port Richey Fire Department trained alongside Pasco County Fire Rescue, utilizing their Fire Marine 1 to practice patient transfers from our marine units to theirs.

These hands-on evolutions focused on safely and efficiently transferring patients between vessels, an essential skill during water emergencies where time, coordination, and precision are critical.

Training like this strengthens our partnership with Pasco County Fire Rescue and ensures that when real emergencies happen on the water, our crews are prepared to work seamlessly together to provide the highest level of care.

We’re proud to continually train, improve, and invest in the safety of our community on land and on the water. 🌊

Yesterday, members of the Port Richey Fire Department trained alongside the New Port Richey Fire Department on small boat operations.

Training together like this is extremely important as it strengthens our ability to work seamlessly during emergencies and improves the safety of both our crews and the citizens we serve. From navigation and boat handling, continuing to train on these specialized skills helps ensure we are prepared when seconds matter most.

We are grateful for the strong partnership we share with the New Port Richey Fire Department and look forward to continuing to train together to better serve our community. πŸš€πŸŒŠπŸš’
