🔋⚡ This Year's Fire Prevention Week Theme:

“Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower™”

This year's campaign focuses on safe charging of lithium-ion battery-powered devices, including cell phones, laptops, e-bikes, e-scooters, power tools, and other rechargeable devices. Safe charging habits can help prevent battery fires before they happen.

🔋 Use the correct charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
🔋 Charge on a hard, flat surface and keep charging devices away from anything that can burn.
🔋 Charge large batteries—such as e-bikes, scooters, and power tools—outside when possible.
🔋 Never block exits or escape routes while charging.
🔋 Unplug devices when they are fully charged.
🔋 If a battery becomes very hot, swells, leaks, smells unusual, smokes, or makes popping/hissing sounds, stop using it.

Fire Prevention Week is here, and this year’s focus is on an important topic that affects many homes in our community: Lithium-Ion Batteries.

From cell phones and tablets to e-bikes, scooters, power tools, and other everyday devices, lithium-ion batteries are everywhere. When used, charged, or stored improperly, they can pose a serious fire hazard.

Throughout Fire Prevention Week, October 4–10, the City of Port Richey Fire Department will be sharing important information to help you safely use, charge, store, and dispose of lithium-ion batteries.

🌊 Two Years Later, Remembering Hurricane Helene

Two years ago today, the City of Port Richey experienced devastating flooding as Hurricane Helene impacted our community.

As the water continued to rise, the Port Richey Fire Department responded throughout our community to help those in need. Our crews rescued residents from their homes, balconies, and even rooftops as floodwaters surrounded properties throughout the City.

For a few of our firefighters, this response was personal. While they were out serving and protecting our community, some of our firefighters were also watching the water rise around their own homes. Despite their own homes flooding they remained on duty and continued answering the calls for service .

Those hours were challenging, but everyone showed the strength, courage, and dedication of the men and women of the Port Richey Fire Department and the resilience of our entire community.

Today, we look back with pride at how far the City of Port Richey has come. Our community faced tremendous challenges, but through hard work, perseverance, and determination, Port Richey continues to recover and rebuild.

While the recovery is not over, we are proud of our City, our residents, and everyone who continues to work toward making Port Richey stronger.

🇺🇸 Remembering September 11, 2001 — 25 Years Later 🇺🇸

This morning, members of the Port Richey Fire Department, along with Port Richey Police Department, City of Port Richey staff and members of our community, came together to honor and remember the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, the memory of that day remains deeply etched in our nation’s hearts.

Today, we remember the 2,977 innocent lives who were taken too soon. We remember the families, friends, and loved ones who continue to carry their loss. And we especially honor the 343 firefighters and 60 police officers and other first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice while running toward danger to save others.

Their courage, sacrifice, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As firefighters and public servants, we are reminded of the responsibility we carry every day to serve, protect, and stand together for the communities we are honored to serve.

On September 11, 2001, our nation was forever changed.

2,977 innocent people lost their lives in the attacks on our country. Among them were 343 firefighters, 23 New York City Police officers, 37 Port Authority Police officers, and 8 EMTs and paramedics who made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to help others.

As firefighters, we especially remember the men and women of the fire service who ran toward danger when others were running away. Their courage, selflessness, and sacrifice will forever be a part of the history of our profession.

Twenty-five years have passed, but we continue to remember the lives lost, the families left behind, and the first responders who answered the call that morning.

One day that changed our nation forever.

🇺🇸 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony 🇺🇸

The Port Richey Fire Department invites our community to join the City of Port Richey this Friday in front of City Hall for a special ceremony honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and remembering the brave men and women who answered the call to serve.

We come together to remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost, honor the first responders and service members who made the ultimate sacrifice, and recognize the courage and selflessness shown in the days that followed.

We encourage our community to join us as we Never Forget. 🇺🇸

🚨 Vessel Crash Response – Durney Key 🚨

Yesterday evening, the Port Richey Fire Department responded with our Marine Unit, alongside the Port Richey Police Department, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (F.W.C.), and Pasco County Fire Rescue, to a vessel crash near Durney Key.

The collision caused a vessel to overturn, resulting in occupants being ejected into the water.

Port Richey Fire Department and Pasco County Fire Rescue Marine Units responded quickly to the scene. Fire Rescue crews treated the patient, evaluated those involved for injuries, and checked the scene for additional hazards. One patient was transported to a local hospital as a Trauma Alert.

⚓ Boating Safety Reminder ⚓

As we enjoy the waterways in and around our community, we encourage all boaters to operate their vessels safely and responsibly. Always remain alert, maintain a safe speed and distance from other vessels, wear a properly fitted life jacket when appropriate, and make sure you have the necessary safety equipment onboard.

If you encounter an emergency or witness an unsafe situation on the water, dial 9-1-1. Quick notification can help emergency crews respond as quickly as possible.

Stay safe and look out for one another on the water. 🚤🌊
