I’m honored today to make a presentation about Stanley Rosen. Stanley was an extraordinary individual, artist, mentor, and friend. Loved by his family and his students, he brought a unique perspective and sense of touch to everything. His long life serves as a lesson in graciousness, artistic, authenticity, and humility for us all. If you’re at NCECA, come to the Past Masters presentation at 1 PM today. If you miss it, it will be playing throughout the conference and will eventually be released on YouTube. You will not regret learning about the work of this amazing human.

The Guardian Building in Detroit is just one of the many Art Deco beauties in the grand city. Complete with 3 story vaulted lobby and a Tiffany clock, tiles to dazzle! Built in 1929 and now a National Historic Landmark. Here at NCECA and looking forward to all the sights and sounds to come!

We are excited to exhibit the work of our talented students this month in our gallery. Over the course of the last few years our base of returning students has expanded. They are hard working and dedicated to their craft. Join us on Saturday, March 7 to celebrate this fabulous work.

It’s hard sometimes with all the anger, pain and violence that fills our world. Mary Oliver, a wise poet once said “To pay attention, this is our endless and proper work.” Here’s hoping that we can all engage together in the process of paying attention in 2026 and beyond.

On this snowy morning when the winter world is at rest we think of peace and tranquility. How tragic that our world is wracked with malice and hatred. Waking to the news of more violence only underscores the need for deeper human connection. While a handmade cup may not save the world, let’s hope it can encourage us take one small step toward a greater appreciation of humanity, creativity and human endeavor. May peace come to those at war, within and without, healing and solace to those who have been touched by violence and fear.
