Border Tails Rescue's mission is to eliminate the need for euthanasia of homeless dogs by providing shelter and arranging loving homes for adoptable dogs through partnerships with animal service facilities locally, nationally and internationally.
💔 SOME GOODBYES ARE JUST TOO UNFAIR.
Richard was only 3 months old. Just a baby, with an entire life that should have been ahead of him. And last week, we had to say goodbye. 🕊️
Richard came to us with a heart murmur and difficulty breathing. We knew he was sick, but his echocardiogram revealed something far more devastating than we could have imagined.
His heart was severely enlarged, and one of his heart valves was leaking so badly that his heart was struggling to do its job. He was showing signs of congestive heart failure, and his tiny body was already working so hard just to keep going. He was only THREE MONTHS OLD.
We explored his treatment options, but Richard's heart disease was severe, and his prognosis was incredibly poor. Even with medication, he faced the risk of further heart failure, sudden deterioration, and a significantly shortened life. He was unable to breath, had to stay kenneled to maintain a regular respiratory rate, and so we gave him a kick-ass goodbye party with staff, pizza, chocolate, whipped cream, toys and a tub of ice cream!
Ultimately, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go peacefully rather than allow him to continue suffering. 💔 And it's just not fair.
Richard should have been getting into trouble, chewing on shoes, learning how to be a dog, and growing into those big Labrador paws.
He should have had birthdays. A family. A lifetime of being someone's best friend.
Instead, his life ended before it really had a chance to begin. We couldn't give Richard the years he deserved, but we could give him love, comfort, and the dignity of a peaceful goodbye.
Sometimes the hardest part of rescue is accepting that loving them doesn't always mean we can save them.

We're so sorry your little heart couldn't keep going. We hope you knew just how much you were loved. You were here for such a short time, but you mattered every single second. ❤️

🐾❤️ MEET YAKEU: A BRAVE BOY WHO DOESN'T NEED EYES TO FIND HIS WAY INTO YOUR HEART!
Yakeu is a Korean Jindo who traveled all the way from Korea for a chance at a better life. His name means “to be a brave and loyal companion,” and we couldn't think of a more fitting name for this special boy. 🥹
Yakeu came to us with severe vision impairment, and in July, he underwent surgery to have both of his eyes removed.
But here's the thing about Yakeu: He hasn't let being blind stop him from living his life!
He's currently thriving in a temporary foster home, even navigating a home with STAIRS! His foster reports that he's getting along wonderfully, and he's continuing to show us just how resilient dogs can be.
And if you're someone who loves the outdoors, Yakeu might just be your new best friend! His previous foster described him as a wonderful hiking companion who loves getting out and exploring. 🥾🌳
❤️ Approximately 6 years old? No! Yakeu's age is not specified, so we won't guess. He's a special boy looking for a family who will love him exactly as he is.
🐾 Enjoys long walks and hikes
🐾 Has shown compatibility with other dogs
🐾 Adapting beautifully to life without his eyes
🐾 A brave, loyal companion with so much love to give
Yakeu will need a family willing to make accommodations for his blindness, provide a consistent environment, and help him navigate new surroundings safely.
He doesn't need to see you to know you're his person. He just needs someone willing to give him a chance. ❤️
Yakeu has traveled across the world, undergone major surgery, and learned to navigate life without his sight. Now, all he needs is a forever home to call his own.

🌌🐾 MEET GALAXY: THE DEFINITION OF A GENTLE GIANT! ❤️
At 6 years old, Galaxy is a big boy with an even BIGGER heart, and he's ready to find a forever home where he can finally be someone's whole world. 🥹
Galaxy came to us from a hoarding case, and despite everything he's been through, he is an absolute sweetheart!
This handsome guy has some brains to go along with his good looks, too!
⭐ Knows how to sit and lay down!
⭐ Might even know paw (he offered it while lying down, so the jury is still out 😂). ⭐ A gentle giant with so much love to give.
⭐ Ready to leave his past behind and start his next chapter!

Galaxy becomes VERY focused on cats when walking past our cat room, and we suspect he has a strong prey drive. For everyone's safety, he needs a feline-free forever home!

❤️🩹 MEET ORIANA: A LITTLE GIRL WITH A BIG HEART AND AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE. 🐾
Our sweet English Bulldog puppy, Oriana, is looking for a VERY special forever home. 🥹❤️
Oriana has been diagnosed with a severe Grade 5/6 heart murmur, and while she may look like your typical adorable, squishy bulldog puppy, her future is a little more complicated.
She will need ongoing veterinary care and cardiology follow-ups. Depending on how her condition progresses, she may require lifelong medications, additional testing, or even surgery (though that's not promising right now).
And unfortunately, there is a possibility that Oriana's life may be shorter than we would ever want it to be. 💔
We are looking for an adopter who understands what they're signing up for. Someone who is financially and emotionally prepared for the unknowns, the medical appointments, and potentially some very difficult decisions.
Oriana will be adopted on an AS-IS medical basis, meaning her adopter will assume responsibility for her future medical care and associated expenses.
We know that's a lot to ask. But we also know there are incredible people out there who open their hearts to dogs like Oriana, knowing that their time together may look a little different.
She doesn't know she's medically complicated. She just knows she wants to be loved, spoiled, and treated like the little princess she is. 👑
Oriana doesn't need someone who can promise her forever. She needs someone who will make every day of her forever count. ❤️

WE LOVE YOU. Like, a lot. Like, Bluebell loves a chicken-free dinner kind of a lot. 🥹❤️
We recently put out a plea for chicken-free food for our dogs with allergies, and you answered in the BIGGEST way!
OUR WISHES HAVE BEEN GRANTED! 🎉🐾
Thanks to this incredible donation, our allergy babies can enjoy delicious meals without the ingredients that make them itchy, uncomfortable, and miserable.
And naturally, we had to bring in our most qualified inspector for the job…
MEET BLUEBELL, HEAD OF CHICKEN-FREE QUALITY CONTROL. 👑
Bluebell is highly allergic to chicken, so she takes her responsibilities VERY seriously. She has personally inspected this donation and would like to report that she is thrilled with the menu. 😂
In all seriousness, donations like this mean the WORLD to us. Feeding hundreds of dogs is no small task, and finding food that meets the needs of our dogs with allergies can be especially challenging.
To our incredible friends at Rescue Pack and Stella & Chewy’s, thank you for hearing our plea, showing up for our dogs, and making sure even our most sensitive pups have full bellies and happy hearts.
You didn't just donate food. You made life a little easier for our dogs AND the people caring for them. ❤️

🇫🇷🐾 WE ARE DROWNING IN FRENCHIES. SEND HELP. 🐾🇫🇷
Meet Eric the Red, Sneech, Little Leo, Sanchez, Alchemilla, Muggles, Foxy, and Roxy.
EIGHT Frenchies. EIGHT squishy faces. And eight dogs who deserve the absolute world. ❤️
Frenchies are goofy, stubborn, affectionate little gremlins who snore like grown men and have personalities ten times their size. We absolutely adore them.
But there's something about Frenchies that doesn't get talked about enough.
THE MEDICAL BILLS. 😭
Unfortunately, many of these dogs end up in rescue because of their medical needs. Frenchies are predisposed to a long list of health conditions, including:
🩺 Chronic ear infections and skin allergies
🩺 IVDD, which can cause severe back pain and even paralysis
🩺 Breathing difficulties that may require surgery
🩺 Eye problems, orthopedic issues, and chronic skin infections
And these aren't always one-time expenses. Some require lifelong medications, special diets, ongoing veterinary care, or surgeries costing thousands of dollars.
We see what happens when people fall in love with the squishy face but aren't prepared for everything that comes with it. 💔
We love these little potatoes, but eight Frenchies with varying medical needs is A LOT for a rescue already stretched thin.
We need adopters who understand that adopting a Frenchie means committing to their health, their medical needs, and whatever the future may bring.
