Modesto Fire units responded to a small fire in the ceiling above a bathroom in an apartment on yesterday evening. Crews worked aggressively to contain the fire in minutes and kept the fire from spreading throughout the two-story apartment building on Vintage Drive.

Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial - IAFF Located in the shadow of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, the Memorial honors the sacrifice made by IAFF members who have given their lives in the line of duty.

This morning, our community came together to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and recognize the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who answered the call.

We remember the thousands of lives lost — civilians and first responders alike. We honor those who ran toward danger, those who lost loved ones, and all those whose lives were forever changed that day.

TWENTY-FIVE YEARS LATER WE REMEMBER AND HONOR EVERYONE AFFECTED BY THE EVENTS OF 9/11.

August was another busy month for the Modesto Fire Department!

Throughout August, our crews responded to 2,661 calls for service.

At approximately 11:05 a.m. yesterday, Modesto Fire Department crews were dispatched to the area beneath the El Vista Avenue bridge over Dry Creek for a rescue.

Engine 3, Truck 5 and Battalion 1 arrived to find a person trapped approximately 20 feet below ground level inside a storm water vault beneath the bridge.

Because of the confined-space environment, a technical rescue response was requested. Truck 1, Rescue 11, Medic 1 and Battalion 3 responded to assist.

Crews quickly went to work, using specialized equipment, rope rescue systems and technical rescue training to safely reach and remove the person from the vault.

After just over an hour of work, the person was removed from the vault and transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Incidents like this require specialized equipment, training and teamwork. Our firefighters regularly train for complex rescues so they are prepared when someone needs help in a difficult or dangerous environment.
