THE MOTHER OF PRIDE 💙💜🩷 Celebrating Bisexual Visibility Day by celebrating Brenda Howard, an activist who helped coordinate the Christopher Street Liberation Day March in 1970, just one year after the Stonewall Uprising. She was an LGBT rights activist, a sex-positive feminist, and proud bisexual.

So, in her words: The next time someone asks why LGBT marches exist or why Gay Pride Month is in June, tell them: "A bisexual woman named Brenda Howard thought it should be."

We know that sometimes, it feels like one vote doesn't matter. Voter suppression tactics and policies have historically silenced voices before, and the fight to protect our constitutional right to vote continues today. But if your vote didn't count, no one would fight so hard to control it. Your vote really matters.

If you're able to vote and if you're choosing to vote this November, check your status. Make sure you're registered and the information on your registration is correct. Use your voice, know our histories, and vote for our collective future, California.

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day. This month is Su***de Prevention Month. We're reminded every day that community saves lives. The theme this year is - an international effort to reduce stigma and promote open conversations to save lives 🩵💜

Su***de prevention isn't one simple thing. It's advocacy, trauma-informed care, food security, affordable housing, disability justice and accessibility, recovery support, and so much more.

Here at CalPride, we encourage those honest discussions full of empathy and support. We will break down mental health barriers, increase access to equitable care, and raise awareness for the causes that genuinely save lives.

Tim Curry (1946-2026) 🕊️🖤

Even if you remember him as Pennywise in It (1990), Wadsworth in Clue (1996), Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island (1996), Tim Curry's breakout role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a legendary performance. He originated the role in 1973 on stage, and brought Frank-N-Furter to the screen in 1975.

For many of us, The Rocky Horror Picture Show has defined the fringe, freaky, and sometimes foolish corners of gender and sexuality. Live performances and showings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show are nights of laughter and song; it's a safe haven for our LGBTQ+ community. If you have the chance to catch The Rocky Horror Picture Show live- take it.

Hannah Ruth couldn't have said it any better: "Rocky Horror Picture Show was the first piece of media that I ever saw that made me feel like it was okay to have a freaky gender- to just be an absolute gender freak, and do it unapologetically. That movie, that musical- and Tim Curry's Dr. Frank-N-Furter in particular- changed my life."

Tim Curry passed away yesterday, August 25th. His passing was announced earlier today. We honor his legacy and live on not dreaming, but being.
