USA Double Reed Studio

The USA Symphony Band and Wind Ensemble concert this evening was phenomenal! Congratulations to my wonderful, dedicated colleagues Will Petersen, Rob Abend and Andra Bohnet; and congratulations to our awesome, hard-working and motivated students! The double reeds sounded exceptionally beautiful! 😊

The USA oboe students had a great time playing their jury pieces for Dr. Pablo Hernandez, from the University of Southern Mississippi, during today’s studio class! Many thanks to Dr. Hernandez for coming here to share his knowledge, artistry, passion and enthusiasm with us! 😊

Freshman oboe performance and music education major, Landon Roberts (.oboe ) played a lot of different woodwind instruments this semester, and he played them all well!! 😊

Many thanks to Dr. Galit Kaunitz ( ) for coming to USA today and teaching a very insightful oboe masterclass! We all learned so much and had a great time! 😁

In honor of Women’s History Month, Dr. Selkirk will perform a recital program of music for oboe and English horn written by women! This Tuesday, 7:30 pm, in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center. ☘️

USA Double Reed Day 2026 was a success! So very thankful to Jeff Keesecker for making the trip from Tallahassee to play in the opening recital and work with our bassoon participants! I know that they learned so much from him and enjoyed his teaching, and it was an honor to have the opportunity to play chamber music with one of my former FSU professors!

Also very thankful to Alexandra Harvey our piano graduate assistant, for her beautiful playing this morning!

And so proud of my wonderful students, .a817 and .oboe for their beautiful playing as well! It was fun to play the Beethoven Trio together!

It was also great to have with us for the day!

And I enjoyed having the opportunity to meet and work with so many enthusiastic double reed students!
