Spring Hill College is proud to be represented in statewide conversations shaping the future of higher education. 💜

Last week, President Mary H. Van Brunt, PhD, a member of the Executive Committee of the Alabama Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (AAICU) Board, joined fellow AAICU leaders for the organization’s annual board meeting.

The meeting brought together leaders from Alabama’s independent colleges and universities for candid discussions about the current higher education landscape, including a conversation with U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville about higher education in Alabama.

Mary’s involvement with AAICU reflects Spring Hill College’s commitment to collaboration, leadership and advocacy on behalf of independent higher education and the students it serves.

From Belize to Mobile, Nicanor Requena’s journey at Spring Hill College is a powerful example of how mentorship, community and opportunity can shape a student’s future. 💜

A senior studying computer science with minors in supply chain management, AI and data science, and mathematics, Nicanor spent this summer interning with Norton Lilly International while participating in FuelAL’s mentorship program.

Through his mentor, Tripp Tremayne of Sam Winter & Company, Nicanor gained more than career advice. He discovered a deeper connection to Mobile and a firsthand example of what it means to invest in your community and the next generation.

His experience is a reminder that opportunity can be found right here in Mobile when you are willing to knock on the door.

“Since I’ve come to Mobile, I think this is probably my favorite place in the world.”

We are proud to see Badgers like Nicanor building meaningful connections, pursuing their passions and discovering new ways to make an impact in the communities they call home. 🌟

This summer, FuelAL: Mobile interns didn't just gain work experience. They built meaningful relationships with young professionals who are helping shape the future of our community.

FuelAL is a statewide talent attraction initiative led by the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama and funded by Innovate Alabama Innovate Alabama. Through the Mobile Chamber's FuelAL programming, interns connect with local employers, community leaders and experiences that showcase what it's like to live and work in Mobile.

Through the Fueling the Future Mentor Match program, interns were paired with YP of MOB members for one-on-one mentorship, networking and career guidance, creating connections that extend far beyond the internship experience.

Read how mentorship is strengthening Mobile's talent pipeline and why investing in the next generation matters for our community.
