👀Monday Thought: Did you know you have a blind spot in each eye?

There’s a tiny area at the back of each eye where the optic nerve connects to your retina. This spot has no light-detecting cells, so it cannot detect an image.

But here’s the interesting part: You usually don’t notice it!

When both eyes are open, the information from one eye helps compensate for the other eye’s blind spot. Your brain also uses the surrounding visual information to fill in what’s missing.

Pretty amazing how much your eyes and brain work together without you even realizing it! 🧠

🌹 Our RoseRock family is growing!

Dr. Brittany and her family are getting ready to welcome baby #4, and we couldn’t be more excited! 🤍

Dr. Brittany will be on maternity leave during October and November to spend some much-deserved time with her growing family. She plans to return to RoseRock in December.

While she’s away, our other RoseRock doctors will be here and ready to care for her patients. Your eye care won’t be put on hold, we’ll make sure you’re in good hands while Dr. Brittany enjoys this special time with her family.

👁️ Monday Thoughts: When was the last time you thought about your eyelids?

Probably not recently. 😅 But they’re actually an important part of keeping your eyes comfortable.

Along your eyelids are tiny meibomian glands that produce the oily layer of your tears. That oil helps keep your tears from evaporating too quickly, while blinking helps spread the tear film across the surface of your eyes.

When those glands become clogged or the eyelid margins become irritated, you may notice burning, watering, redness, grittiness, or vision that seems to come and go.

That’s also why keeping the eyelids and lash line healthy can be an important part of overall eye care, especially for patients who frequently deal with irritated or uncomfortable eyes.

💭 Your Monday thought: We spend a lot of time thinking about our eyes, but healthy vision starts with more than just the eyeball.

If your eyes frequently feel irritated, watery, gritty, or uncomfortable, bring it up at your next visit. There may be more going on than you realize. 👀

👓 New glasses on… and something feels a little off?

Before you assume the prescription is wrong, your visual system may simply be adjusting.

When your prescription changes, your eyes are sending the brain visual information that may be different from what it has become accustomed to. Your brain then has to adapt to the new optics.

During that adjustment, some people may temporarily notice things like mild eye strain, a different sense of depth or distance, or that the floor and objects seem a little unusual, especially with a larger prescription change, new astigmatism correction, or a different lens design.

For many people, this settles as they consistently wear their new glasses over the next several days. More complex changes, particularly progressive lenses, can sometimes take longer.

But adaptation shouldn't be used to explain away every problem. If your vision remains blurry, you’re experiencing significant headaches or dizziness, you can't comfortably function in the glasses, or things simply aren't improving, let us know. Fit, measurements, lens fabrication and the prescription itself can all be checked.

The goal isn't to force yourself to tolerate new glasses. It’s to give your visual system a reasonable chance to adapt, and make sure everything is right if it doesn't. 👀
