Houston sits on some of the most expansive clay soil in the country. It shifts with the rain and contracts in the drought, and it does that every single year.
The foundation work we do here isn’t what you’d spec in Dallas or Austin. We build for this specific ground, in this specific climate, because a home that performs in Houston has to be designed for Houston.

Last week, our team took home 7 Star Awards from the Texas Association of Builders (TAB). TAB gathered and recognized the best in Texas residential construction, making these awards even more meaningful.

Houston summers test everything from the insulation to the roofline to the HVAC load.
We think about each part, together, in the design phase. After all, those systems don’t work in isolation. A home that stays comfortable in August without running the AC into the ground isn’t luck. It’s a series of decisions made long before anyone picked a thermostat.

The same crew. The same Houston neighborhoods. On Point has been building homes in Houston for over twenty years with many of the same vendors and same faces on the job site. In an industry defined by turnover, that kind of continuity is unusual. Our clients feel it in the process. They see it in the finished product.
It’s one of the reasons our clients’ homes turn out the way they do.

Meet the man in front of the camera, Robert Appelgate!
Aside from leading our reels, Robert is our VP of Construction. He’s been with On Point since 2013, and before that, he spent 20 years doing high-end residential electrical and smart home work from the inside out. Robert’s also been a finalist for both Texas and Greater Houston Superintendent of the year 3 times and won Superintendent of the year in 2024. So when a client asks about whole-home automation, lighting control, or how to future-proof the technology in a new build, he’s not guessing. He’s done it and been recognized as one of the best to do it.
Robert was born and raised just north of Houston and followed his father into the home construction business. Today when he’s not working, he spends “late time” aboard his boat with his wife and four boys.
