🍂 Happy First Day of Fall from G-Wiz Adventures! 🐐

The seasons are changing at Bison Ranch & Retreats, and fall looks pretty good on the ranch.

Cooler days, changing leaves, and plenty of curious animals make this the perfect season to get outside, explore, and learn something new.

At G-Wiz Adventures, we’re building hands-on experiences that connect kids and families with animals, agriculture, nature, and STEAM—all across 35 acres of our 215-acre working ranch.

Here’s to a new season of learning, exploring, and adventure. 🍁

This week at Bison Ranch & Retreats, we’re digging into artifacts and the stories they can tell us about the past.

Artifacts are objects left behind by people who lived before us. By looking at what they were made from, how they were used, and where they were found, we can learn about the people, cultures, and communities that once called an area home.

For G-Wiz Adventures, our 35-acre learning experience within Bison Ranch, discoveries like these turn the ranch itself into a classroom. History, archaeology, science, and observation all come together when you start asking: “What is this, and how did it get here?”

Take a closer look at the objects around you. You never know what story might be hiding in plain sight.

🌾 Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Agriculture, land, and community have always been at the heart of Hispanic and Latino heritage across Texas. As we build G-Wiz Adventures on the historic Bison Ranch, we're honoring the generations of Hispanic farmers, ranchers, and agricultural workers who shaped the land we now call home and the culture we hope to pass on to the next generation of young learners.

Adventures From the Herd. Forty one animals live out here and every one of them has a whole personality going on.

Starting with the donkeys.

Most people think donkeys are just small horses. They are not. A donkey plants its feet and refuses to move when something feels wrong, and that instinct is why ranchers put them in with sheep and goats. A donkey guards a herd. It will run off a coyote ot other predator.

Stubborn is not the right word. Careful is.

You do not have to wait for G-Wiz to meet them. Animal encounters are bookable at Bison Ranch and Retreats right now. Seventy five dollars a person, four person minimum, and you can add it to any stay or event.

Happy Labor Day from G-Wiz Adventures, a 35-acre STEAM and workforce destination being built in Decatur, Texas.

Nobody gets a day off from eating.

Run today's cookout backward. The grill. The store. The truck. The processing plant. The field. The person who planted it in a season most people never think about.

Every one of those is a job somebody worked so you could have today off.

That is the whole reason we teach food systems to young people. Not because we want them all to farm. Because somebody has to, and right now not enough of them know it is an option.

🐐 G-Wiz Gets a Pedicure!

Taking care of our animals means a lot more than feeding them and giving them plenty of space to explore. Regular hoof maintenance is an important part of keeping G-Wiz and the rest of our herd healthy, comfortable, and moving well.

Hooves grow continuously, so they need to be checked and trimmed regularly. Overgrown hooves can make walking uncomfortable, affect a goat’s stance, and create places where dirt and moisture can collect.

During G-Wiz’s hoof care, we:

🐐 Check each hoof for cracks, tenderness, or anything unusual
✂️ Carefully trim away excess growth
🧹 Clean out dirt and debris
👀 Check for early signs of hoof problems
❤️ Make sure he’s comfortable and walking normally afterward

It may look like a pedicure, but it’s an important part of responsible animal care!

At Bison Ranch & Retreats, moments like these are also opportunities to teach our guests and students that caring for animals means paying attention to the little things that keep them healthy every day.

And G-Wiz? He takes his spa days very seriously. 🐐✨

Animal Encounters project one: THE BARN.

Three acres of the 35 become animal habitats, and this building is the center of it. Right now it is holding whatever the last owners left behind.

A barn on a property is a time capsule. Some of it is useful. Most of it is not.

Follow along. This is a five-phase, ten-year build and you are early.

G-Wiz Adventures is a 35-acre STEAM and workforce destination being built inside Bison Ranch and Retreats, and we are starting with Animal Encounters.

Three of those acres become animal habitats, with hands-on livestock education for any generation, ages 8 to 80.

If you have never seen how livestock are actually cared for, this is the one to follow.

Right now there are 41 animals on the property. The goal is 65.

Every week we will show you which project we are working on to get there. Barn renovation. Stables. Feeding and care schedules. New babies.

Starting with a barn that has not been touched in years.
