After leading the Alvord Lady Bulldogs to Wise County's deepest softball playoff run and first bi-district and area titles in seven and 11 seasons, respectively, coach Chelsey Heller submitted her resignation last week.

Former Paradise softball head coach/assistant coach Hillary Limbaugh has been named Alvord's new softball coach, while boys basketball coach Chris Cornelison will assume Heller's cross country responsibilities.

As local teams returned to the field for the first day of fall practices Monday, a total of four Wise County teams are viewed as postseason contenders, according to Dave Campbell's Texas Football.

Paradise, Decatur, Alvord and Boyd are viewed as playoff teams in the 2026 season, while Bridgeport, Chico and Northwest are expected to miss the cut.

Following the Yellowjackets' second state title in four seasons, Boyd coach Brad McIntire and junior pitcher/shortstop Will McIntire were announced as the 2026 Blue Bell/Texas Sportswriters Association's 3A Coach and Player of the Year, respectively.

Boyd and Paradise combined for 10 total awards, with the Yellowjackets claiming seven and the Panthers totaling three.
