Goofy is perhaps the most aptly named animal we've ever had at the shelter. He is, well...goofy. 🤷

He's a year and a half old, but still has the vibe of a teenager with zero body awareness. He's constantly bonking into stuff because he doesn't know how big he is, which doesn't stop him from trying to be a lap dog.

Goofy doesn't have a lot going on upstairs💡, but he makes up for it in pure enthusiasm for life. He's just happy to be here. He also wants to know what you're doing and will be a part of it even if the task requires zero dogs. Despite his orange cat level intelligence, he knows several tricks and loves mastering new ones (though we're pretty sure it's purely for the treats). 😋

Demystifying fostering, one post at a time! 🪄

We try to make fostering as simple as possible. The benefits for our animals are off the charts, so we do our best to provide you with all the support and supplies you need. ❤️

So, how does it work? 🤔

1. Fill out an application at pawsatlanta.org/foster
2. Set up your virtual home inspection.
3. Complete your home inspection.
4. Set up a time to meet our animals.
5. Come to PAWS to meet prospective foster pets.
6. Head home with your new foster pet and all your supplies!

Interested? We'd love to have you! 🐾 Right now, we're especially in need of fosters for kittens and large dogs. But, we're glad to have fosters for any of our animals!

The handsome Marshmallow Man is blossoming in his foster home and enjoying the good life, especially the naps. 😴

His fosters say he’s ❤️ loving and cuddly but also independent. He loves cardboard scratchers, crinkly toys, and, most of all, treats. If you WFH, he’s able to entertain himself. As a senior kitty, he enjoys all-day naps, moving from one cozy spot to another.

His foster says Marshmallow Man would likely do well with children because of his easygoing personality. He’s not been around other cats or dogs yet but would likely be happiest as a solo cat.

This sweet boy has been waiting a while for a home, and though he’s loving his foster home, we’d really like for him to finally have a home of his own. 🐾 Visit pawsatlanta.org/cats or the link in our bio to adopt!

We are heartbroken to share the news that our long-time resident Ebbie, 12, has passed away. He was diagnosed in 2023 with dilated cardiomyopathy, enlargement of the heart, and we knew our time with Ebbie was winding down. Still, we were not ready to let him go.

We first met Ebbie in the fall of 2017 at a local county shelter, where he’d been roughed up pretty good by another dog. He needed help, and we couldn’t walk away. So, Ebbie joined the PAWS Atlanta family and quickly became a favorite.

Ebbie had a small but devoted group of PAWS team members and volunteers who loved him beyond measure. The feeling was clearly mutual. Once he got to know you, he would light up when you opened his gate to take him for a walk. He loved walks.

He lived most of his time at PAWS in his own bachelor pad, a free-standing cottage with AC and heating, and his own private yard, where he sunned himself with great abandon on his Kurunda bed. He spent many afternoons lounging on that bed, watching the world float by. That bed was his happy place.

Ebbie appreciated and lived the chill life, going for walks, sleeping in the sun, waiting for his treats from the “drive-thru” window of the vet clinic. The vet staff would fling open the window, and he’d come running, gently take his treat, and then promptly run back into his cottage to enjoy his snack in peace.

He was stunning, and not entirely unaware of his exceptional good looks. We’d gush over him, telling him how very handsome he was, and he’d smile and soak in the love.

Ebbie lived, and loved, on his own terms. His world was small, but the people he trusted and knew, he adored.

Ebbie’s house sits empty today for the first time in years. The gate is open, and the sun is shining down on his sweet little house.

We will miss Ebbie beyond words.

We will be closed to the public tomorrow, Friday, June 19, for the Juneteenth holiday. We'll reopen on Saturday at 10am for our regular hours.

Hot Chocolate is larger than life. When you walk in the room, he's the guy you can't miss. 👋 He's not afraid to tell you his opinions about everything, and he's pretty famous around here for how tall he is when he stands up to check you out from inside his outdoor enclosure.

Here's the thing: Hot Chocolate has been waiting years for a home. He was adopted as a puppy but had to return to the shelter for reasons outside of his control. And because he did a lot of his growing up here, he's a bit socially awkward. But we believe there's still someone out there for him.

At 8 years old, Hot Chocolate is slowing down a little, but he still has plenty of energy for long walks and running through the off-leash area with his friends to stretch his legs. 🏃‍♂️ He's a shepherd, after all, and he needs to make sure everything is exactly where it's supposed to be.

If you're looking for a pup who could really use another chance, consider bringing this handsome guy home. He needs a spot with no kids or other pets. He likes to have the place to himself (aside from you, of course).

This Sunday's vaccine clinic on 6/21 will be open to DOGS ONLY. 🐶

Due to a health concern currently affecting our shelter cat population, we will be temporarily limiting the June 21 vaccine clinic to dogs only. This precaution is being taken while we work with our veterinary team to diagnose any illnesses and prevent the spread of disease to the pets in our community. Dog services will continue as scheduled.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we prioritize the health and safety of the animals in our care and in our community. We will provide updates regarding services for cats as soon as they become available.
