When you or a loved one needs emergency care, your closest option may be a freestanding emergency room (FSER).

An FSER provides 24/7 emergency care similar to a hospital emergency room, but it’s located separately from a hospital campus. Offering convenient access to emergency care, FSERs can help you get the care you need close to where you are.

In this video, Dr. Brad Hoover, an emergency physician with HCA Healthcare, explains what to expect during a visit — from check-in and evaluation to treatment — and how, if you need hospital-based care, our connected network can help coordinate the next step.

Each year, approximately 10 million patients receive emergency care across our broader HCA Healthcare network. Every visit is different, but our goal is always the same: to help you get the care you need when it matters most.

During World Breastfeeding Week, we’re highlighting the importance of early, trusted support for families.

Through a partnership between Medical City Healthcare, the HCA Healthcare Foundation and United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, the United for Healthy Starts initiative connects Dallas County families with maternal health and early childhood resources, including home visiting, lactation and doula support, and childbirth education.

The initiative has already supported hundreds of parents, guardians and children—helping more families access the care and resources they need during some of their earliest moments together.

Every minute matters during a stroke. Fast care can help protect brain function and lower the risk of long-term disability.

That’s why door-to-needle time — or DTN time — is so important. It’s the time it takes a patient with an ischemic stroke to receive clot-busting medication (“needle”) after arriving at the hospital (“door”).

We're proud to be part of HCA Healthcare, a leader in stroke care. Our teams follow proven best practices to help patients get safe, high-quality treatment when they need it most. Those efforts have helped achieve an average DTN time of 33 minutes across HCA Healthcare hospitals — 45% faster than the national standard.

Before the school year begins, check one more item off your list: your child’s sports physical.

A sports physical helps check your child’s overall health before they take part in school athletics, cheerleading, marching band, camps or other activities. Many schools and recreational leagues require one each year.

CareNow Urgent Care is offering K-12 sports physicals for $35 through Aug. 31, 2026. No appointment needed — just walk in before the school year starts.

Iron deficiency during pregnancy or after delivery can leave you feeling tired, weak and unlike yourself.

Medical City Decatur now offers iron infusion therapy for eligible obstetric patients who need support restoring iron levels. This treatment is available with a doctor’s order and is administered by labor and delivery nurses in a monitored clinical setting.

For some eligible patients, iron infusion therapy can help restore iron levels more quickly than oral supplements and can be easier on the stomach.

Lung cancer screening can help find cancer early — often before symptoms begin. If you’re 50 to 80 and meet at least one of the screening criteria shown here, you may be eligible for a low-dose CT scan, a type of X-ray that screens your lungs. If you have Medicare, you must be 50 to 77 to qualify. Swipe for more about screening guidelines.

As part of HCA Healthcare, we can connect you to more resources, more solutions and more possibilities for your care. Through the HCA Healthcare Sarah Cannon Cancer Network, you have access to personalized, coordinated cancer care close to home, should you ever need it.

Summer cleanup is a good time to clear out more than closets and garages — it’s also a chance to check your medicine cabinet. 🌞

If you find unused or expired prescription or over-the-counter medications, do not keep them where they could be misused, taken by mistake or accessed by children or teens.

Fifteen Medical City Healthcare hospitals offer free, secure drug take-back boxes where North Texans can safely and anonymously dispose of unused or expired medications.
