Prayer Orthodoxy

The iconostasis reveals the order and theology of the Church. Christ stands to the right of the Royal Gates, the Panagia to the left, Saint John the Baptist beside Christ, and the patron saint or feast beside the Panagia. Every placement points the faithful toward Christ.

Η εἰκονοστάσις φανερώνει τὴν τάξη καὶ τὴ θεολογία τῆς Ἐκκλησίας. Ὁ Χριστὸς βρίσκεται δεξιὰ τῶν Ὡραίων Πυλῶν, ἡ Παναγία ἀριστερά, ὁ Ἅγιος Ἰωάννης ὁ Πρόδρομος δίπλα στὸν Χριστό, καὶ ὁ προστάτης Ἅγιος ἢ ἡ ἑορτὴ δίπλα στὴν Παναγία. Ὅλα ὁδηγοῦν τὸν πιστὸ πρὸς τὸν Χριστό.

The Orthodox censer is filled with meaning. Its four chains represent the Four Evangelists, and its twelve bells the Twelve Apostles. The censer bowl recalls the womb of the Virgin Mary, who bore Christ, the Divine Fire, without being consumed. The burning charcoal represents Christ, and the incense the prayers of the faithful rising to God.

Ὁ ὀρθόδοξος θυμιατὸς εἶναι γεμάτος νόημα. Οἱ τέσσερις ἁλυσίδες συμβολίζουν τοὺς Τέσσερις Εὐαγγελιστές καὶ τὰ δώδεκα κουδουνάκια τοὺς Δώδεκα Ἀποστόλους. Τὸ δοχεῖο τοῦ θυμιατοῦ θυμίζει τὴ μήτρα τῆς Παναγίας, ἡ ὁποία ἔφερε τὸν Χριστό, τὸ Θεῖο Πῦρ, χωρὶς νὰ κατακαεῖ. Τὸ ἀναμμένο κάρβουνο συμβολίζει τὸν Χριστό καὶ τὸ θυμίαμα τὶς προσευχὲς τῶν πιστῶν ποὺ ἀνεβαίνουν πρὸς τὸν Θεό.

Hilandar Monastery, Mount Athos

Founded in 1198 by Saint Sava and Saint Simeon, Hilandar has stood for more than eight centuries as one of the great spiritual centers of Serbian Orthodoxy on the Holy Mountain. At the heart of the monastery stands the Katholikon, the main church, dedicated to the Presentation of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple.

Within these walls, generations of monks have lived a life centered on prayer, repentance, obedience, and the Divine Liturgy.

Ιερά Μονή Χιλανδαρίου, Άγιον Όρος

Η Ιερά Μονή Χιλανδαρίου ιδρύθηκε το 1198 από τον Άγιο Σάββα και τον Άγιο Συμεών και αποτελεί επί περισσότερους από οκτώ αιώνες ένα από τα σημαντικότερα πνευματικά κέντρα της Σερβικής Ορθοδοξίας στο Άγιον Όρος. Στην καρδιά της Μονής βρίσκεται το Καθολικό, αφιερωμένο στα Εισόδια της Υπεραγίας Θεοτόκου.

Μέσα σε αυτά τα τείχη, γενιές μοναχών αφιέρωσαν τη ζωή τους στην προσευχή, τη μετάνοια, την υπακοή και τη Θεία Λειτουργία.

The Prosphora seal carries a profound image of the Church gathered around Christ.

At its center is the Holy Lamb, marked IC XC NI KA: Jesus Christ Conquers. Around Him are commemorated the Theotokos, the ranks of the Saints, and the living and departed faithful.

During the Proskomide, the priest prepares these portions before the Divine Liturgy, placing the whole Church symbolically around Christ upon the Diskos.

Η σφραγίδα του Προσφόρου φέρει μια βαθιά εικόνα ολόκληρης της Εκκλησίας συγκεντρωμένης γύρω από τον Χριστό.

Στο κέντρο βρίσκεται ο Αμνός του Θεού με τη σφραγίδα ΙC XC NIKA — Ιησούς Χριστός Νικά. Γύρω Του μνημονεύονται η Υπεραγία Θεοτόκος, οι τάξεις των Αγίων, καθώς και οι ζώντες και οι κεκοιμημένοι πιστοί.

Κατά την Προσκομιδή, ο ιερέας προετοιμάζει αυτές τις μερίδες πριν από τη Θεία Λειτουργία, τοποθετώντας συμβολικά ολόκληρη την Εκκλησία γύρω από τον Χριστό επάνω στο Δισκάριο.

Reach for Christ. He waits for you.

In moments of joy, reach for Him. In moments of fear, reach for Him. When you have fallen, reach for Him again. Christ does not turn away the heart that comes to Him with humility and repentance.

Do not allow the noise of the world to keep you distant from the One your soul was created to know.

Άπλωσε το χέρι σου προς τον Χριστό. Εκείνος σε περιμένει.

Στις στιγμές της χαράς, στρέψου προς Αυτόν. Στις στιγμές του φόβου, στρέψου προς Αυτόν. Όταν πέσεις, στρέψου ξανά προς Αυτόν. Ο Χριστός δέχεται την καρδιά που έρχεται κοντά Του με ταπείνωση και μετάνοια.

Elder Simeon waited faithfully for the promised Messiah. When Christ was brought into the Temple, Simeon received into his arms the One foretold by the Law and the Prophets.

In the Meeting of the Lord, the Old Covenant meets its fulfillment in Christ. The promised Messiah has come, and salvation is revealed to all nations.

Ο Δίκαιος Συμεών περίμενε με πίστη τον υποσχεμένο Μεσσία. Όταν ο Χριστός οδηγήθηκε στον Ναό, ο Συμεών έλαβε στην αγκαλιά του Εκείνον που προανήγγειλαν ο Νόμος και οι Προφήτες.
