Labor Day is for relaxing and making memories, not meeting law enforcement.
As we wrap up summer, let’s keep our roads safe for everyone. If your Labor Day plans include alcohol or other impairing substances, always plan your ride before the celebrations begin.
✅ Designate a sober driver.
✅ Book a rideshare or taxi.
✅ Never let a friend drive impaired.
Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

The best way to avoid a DUI is simple. If you’re high, don’t drive. Make another plan to get home. Drive High, Get a DUI.

NWLA DZD held their full coalition meeting on Wednesday, August 19th at the Bossier Parish Sheriff Substation. Community partners, safety advocates, and leaders from across the region joined together as we work toward a common goal across Louisiana: eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries on our roads.
Speakers at the meeting included State Representative Dodie Horton, Captain Trey Strickland, Special Agent Barry Spinney, Special Agent John Colvin, NELA DZD Regional Coordinator Susan Gentry, Cathy Childers from LHSC, Matt Trahan from LSU CARTS, and Brian McCormick from TIMS. We were excited to have our new DZD Student Ambassadors from Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council attend the meeting as well.
A huge thank you to all our speakers for sharing their valuable insights, Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office for hosting, and to all who attended the meeting and helped make it a success! Your presence and dedication are what drive this mission forward!

Rebecca Boquet, Regional Safety Coordinator for Destination Zero Deaths South Central Region partnered with the Nicholls State University Police Department to bring highway safety front and center at Nicholls Welcome Back Day!
Students stopped by throughout the event to take the Buckle Up, Phone Down pledge, committing to buckle up, put the phone down, and help make Louisiana’s roads safer.
And we even recruited a familiar face to the cause—Colonel Tillou took the pledge too!
A great start to the new school year and another opportunity to work alongside Nicholls State University Police Department to make highway safety part of the campus conversation.
Buckle Up. Phone Down. Every trip. Every time.
