Juneteenth commemorates the official end of slavery in the U.S. occurring on June 19, 1865.

Despite the Emancipation Proclamation being signed by President Lincoln in 1863, on June 19th, Union soldiers led by General
Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas with news that the Civil War ended, informing enslaved Black's that they were now free,
2 1/2 years after Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth celebrates the strength and resiliency of Black people &
our culture-yesterday, today & into the future.
